This was an amazing place to be. If you enjoy the nature and scenery of Costa Rica, this has to be the place to stay. The food was amazing, and the people were incredibly nice. The drive is intimidating, but it's worth the work. Suenos del Bosque has the freshest juices you will taste, incredible coffee, and freshly caught fish.

I hate to be a naysayer after the two latest five star reviews but there are a few issues I believe could make this place so much better.

For starters, the kitchen we had was not "fully" equipped by my definition. The cookware was extremely limited and in poor condition. The stove apparently had a short in the oven and burned out an element the day of our arrival and a new one the next day. We gave up trying to explain this to the owners/manager. Management does not provide any paper towels, napkins, basic seasonings so bring your own. Overall housekeeping was spotty at best, the kitchen was only so so clean, I washed the dishes prior to using them which required either filling a large pot with hot water from the shower or heating it up on the stove. Be prepared, there is no heat in the cabins with kitchens and it is quite chilly in San Gerardo at times. The lighting in the bathroom is so poor it is almost impossible to see (I kept trying to turn the light on only to discover it was on). One covered picnic area on the grounds had old mattress stored in it, this is not a pretty sight. My overall biggest complaint is no one on the premises speaks English, if you have a problem or need to ask a question you better know how to speak some Spanish. These cabins are in a lovely setting they could be wonderful place to stay if they had some basic TLC and there was a way to communicate with management.

These are wonderful cabins in a surreal setting with nice, well equipped kitchens, Our cabin had a balcony overlooking a man-made trout pond which had small boats you could take out on it. If you plan to use the kitchen be sure and buy your groceries before you turn off of Highway 2 as there are no real options in San Gerardo De Dota. There are 2 very small soda's that you can buy soft drinks, chips, cookies but they will not have eggs and heavier food items. There is a trail beside the cabins that leads to the Salverge Lodge which has a wonderful restaurant that we visited several times. The service and food was always great. Also, behind the restuarant they have a fantastic bar with a warm fireplace that offers a very good happy hour each evening. I took my son trout fishing in the Saverge trout farm on premisis where you pay by the weight. Pretty easy fishing but he was excited to catch 3 within like 10 minutes and their guide cleans them and puts them on ice for you. Later we had the restaurant cook them for our dinner and they were delicious! A little pricey since you have already paid for the fish but very well prepared.

The cabins have a wonderful nature trail up into the mountain. The beds are comfortable and the family was nice. I dealt with the daughter and she was very sweet but there was a bit of a language barrier. We had problems the 2nd night with the water heater but it probably was just low on propane..We could not get the TV to work properly but who needs TV up here anyway. The cabin did have a DVD player if you want to bring your own DVD/s

This is the most beautful and relaxing place we have visited in Costa Rica and this was our 5th trip. The cabins offer much more living space than the lodges for the same price. The village offers birdwatching, hiking, a waterfall, horseback riding, and even ziplining at Trojan Lodge. We highly reccommend a 2 night visit to San Gerardo De Dota. The road up to the turnoff is a little nerve wrecking but start early in the morning and you will be pleased you did this!

This is the best place in Costa Rica, one of the best alltogether where we have stayed. The owner family takes great pride keeping up the sustainable methods and the place and the cabins are just beautiful! We don't mind the cold but it's good to be prepared, there's no insulation but there are plenty of blankets available.

The surroundings are extremely beautiful and we did see Quetzals the very first day we arrived, trying first without luck in Monteverde. The hotel is next-door 3 min away, if you like to eat in restaurant, but at least the cabin we stayed in included everything for self-catering.

Highly recommended!

This resort is in the Savegre Mts. Very cool (often cold) area but with wonderful birding. The best place to see the Quetzel. The rooms are large and very comfortable. They are set in a small park. We experienced 3 gourmet meals each day. One of our party must have a gluton free diet and they had no problem with this.
Be sure to bring warm clothing if you are going into any of the mountainous areas of Costa Rica.

Room Tip: There are only a few cabins here and they are all fairly new.
