“Great Views - try and do this”
Reviewed February 2, 2014

Stunning views. Amazing architecture, Lovely people serving.
Well worth a visit and the ski back down is via a backish or blue run (but not really suitable for very new skiers ). If you can't ski take the lift there and back.

“Too full to even get in”
Reviewed December 30, 2012

We wanted to eat here for lunch one day but, having made it over to Hochgurgl from Obergurgl and braved the -30C when we got there it was so jam packed we couldn't even get in so we raced back down to slightly warmer if less picturesque areas. Beware that there is either a steep black or narrow blue back down and don't go up there if you are on the verge of hypothermia as you are not guaranteed to get in. It must be good though if so many were in there (either that or like us they were desperate to get out of the cold)

“A wonderful scenery of Oetztaler Alpen”
Reviewed September 9, 2011

I hope I'll not offend anybody (skiers included) if I'm writing about the Top Mountain Star in summertime.

It's a destination easy to reach and gives you a direct contact with the fragrance of eternity that the high mountains have. If you're staying anywhere in Oetztal, purchase an Oetztal Card, as it's the best and cheapest way to get everywhere in the valley.Go with the bus to Obergurgl, station Hochgurglbahn, but be careful: elevators (Bergbahnen) are operating Tuesday, Thursday and Friday only, period middle June-middle September, 9.00a.m.-4p.m.. In some 20 minutes (2 sectors, with 200m walk between them) you get to the final station, at 3080m.

I advise to continue by climbing to the Wurmkogel peak cross (photo 1), an ascend of 15 minutes, with cables parapets and stairs for a safe and easy way. From there the scenery is gorgeous (photos 2 and 3). If weather is good, you can stay hours there. Before you leave the peak, you can stamp in your mountain log the event (stamp on the metal box of the cross pole).

After that you can visit the bar and enjoy several snacks and drinks. I recommend you an "Apfelstrudel" with vanilla sauce (be careful, it's hot!). Then you can stroll on the viewing platform decorated with a marmot and a "Gamsbock".

You'll remember this beautiful day many times after...

“A must if you're skiing in Hochgurgl / Obergurgl”
Reviewed April 15, 2010

It is expected that you benefit from some wonderful views and scenery when skiing but I would say that, so far, the view from this bar is probably the best I've experienced to date.
It sits at the highest point within the two resorts (which are very well connected and effectively one resort), some 3084m.
The bar itself is accessed by a few stairs which take you up that little bit further for an even better vantage point. There's then a fully enclosed bar with 360 deg views as well as an external balcony which runs around the bar.
We probably visited this bar about 6 times on our recent holiday and we were very fortunate to benefit from some crystal clear days. Looking south, you can see as far as Italy.
Access to the bar is not just limited to expert skiers. There is a Black run and a Blue run back down and although the very top of the Black is a little steep, most decent skiers will find joining part way down from the Blue ok.
The photo doesn't really do this place justice but if you are skiiing in these resorts I would highly recommend sampling this place.
