This is an awful awful awful place to stay. The hotel owners, specifically the woman who runs it - Anne I think her name is - is rude and obnoxious and has the customer service skills of a cave man coming across a wild bore when he has not eaten for a week.
she runs the pub (I use this term very lightly) for her pleasure and certainty not as a service provider with customers being a necessary nuisance.

> food terrible.
> room shabby, dirty and cold, very very cold.
> bed time 9 o'clock as bar shuts, and the heating (electric fire) in the only room left to sit in is turned off.

on a positive note the staff that run it when she is not there are really friendly and polite, she would do well to emulate there customer service skills.

if you do not like someone send them here, if you do DONT.

Room Tip: no good rooms

We really enjoyed our stay and found the staff and owners to be very pleasant and helpful. We ate our evening meal there; very nice fresh cooked food. The room was on the small side but it was cosy with a comfortable bed. The hotel has a very interesting history; ask about it if you can. The breakfast was really delicious, not too big and not too small, and served with a smile. Tea and coffee facilities were plentiful in the room.

Room Tip: Although our room was cosy, if we return we would choose a downstairs room as they are larger and not much more expensive.

Myself and a business colleague booked here for nine nights, and stayed two, due to the poor accomodation, and the hotels cancellation policy.
We had the Fakenham, and Aintree rooms on the third floor. Both rooms were disgusting, they were very old, and dated, the woodchip wallpaper was peeling off the wall, the curtains were mouldy, the sash window was rotten, and had dead flies everywhere. Also, the bathrooms were dirty, and there was nowhere to hang your clothes ! The hotel is residents only, the bar shuts at 9pm, and the limited food, was only available between 6-8pm. The hotel is very noisy, as it is just above the very busy A14. I would avoid this place like the plague.

Aintree sweet, poor heating and lots of buzzy flys. If you put your ear near the ceiling you can hear them buzzing in the attic, maybe a body up there or something. They are obviously aware of the problem because of the cans of raid fly killer in the room. Definitely won't be coming back here again.

Barely adequate facilties. The radiator in my Aston "Suite" (a tiny room - I thought a suite was a number of rooms?) was not working (December) and an oil-filled radiator had to suffice. Menus and paper work was grubby and well-thumbed - and out-of-date. Proprietors said we could eat there that evening, but didn't seem keen that we should do so, as all other residents were eating out (why?). We were invited to use the Lounge when we returned from eating out but this was in virtual darkness and light switches are in a box at the end of a corridor which we never found. Shaving points in both our rooms didn't work and my friends shower didn't either.

Breakfast was OK and served cheerfully - not by the owner.
Overall the place looks tired and run-down and an air of grubbiness pervades, though the beds were spotless. Depends what you like.
