The butterfly conservatory is more than an attraction. It is a 10 yr. Project to reforest the area which was clearcut 60 yes ago to raise cattle. Owners Glenn and Anna are passionate folks who gladly share their love of nature in this tropical sanctuary of frogs and approximately 1000 butterflies.

Don't miss the nature hike through virgin forest which drops down through a serene creek and then up to an overlook of arsenal volcano.

“excellent!”
Reviewed April 29, 2013

We loved this place. Very set apart from the main road, but most things worth seeing in this area are. Tons and tons of butterflies in different habitats, and lots of other wildlife, birds lizards on this property- so make sure you walk the trails, there is a lot more to see than just the butterflies!

“unexpected treat”
Reviewed April 28, 2013

a bit out of the way but worth the drive. 4 separate huts with regional species of butterflies. The staff opened the frog aquariums to give us a good look at several tree frog species. Bonus river trail walk and a resident howler monkey that provided good photo opps. i think it was $14 but this is for conservation efforts- not just a tourist trap. Due to stairs and trails i wouldnt recommend for people with walking difficulties (but not a problem for average person)

“Restful and peaceful”
Reviewed April 27, 2013

There were plenty of butterflies unlike some others that we have visited. The staff was very friendly and offered information and guidance although it is a self guided tour. The groundskeepers were more than willing to share their knowledge.

Trails through the plant habit for the butterflies. Three large enclosed habits of butterflies. Nice nectar and host plants in the encloses, with thousands of different species of butterflies and moths. Education on the different stages of the butterflies
life cycle. Also a frog house.
