We were told that Pizza John's was a great place to visit so we headed out to try to find it. After a couple of wrong turns, we finally found the right turn and drove and drove. What great scenery! We wondered if we had taken another wrong turn when we saw the sign that said we were only 40 meters away, but only saw a dead end. Luckily, as we were puzzled, John came out to show us the way. Great pizza. We split a pizza and we actually ate the whole thing. The only thing better than the pizza was the company. John sat with us while we ate and entertained us. What a great place. I am so glad we found it! I highly recommend a visit. Of course, we left our mark on the walls. Fabulous place! Next visit I expect to find a geocache there too :)

If you are staying in the La Fortuna/Arenal area - it is worth the 20 minute drive (close to the Zipline) to dinner. It is not your typico Costa Rican restaurant - but is more like a fun surf/beach shack. Pizza is good but the ice cream is outstanding! Ice cream Flavors included Rosemary Honey and coffee - which was the best coffee I may have ever had.

Fun night out with a family and friends....kids liked writing all over the walls in marker..

For some people finding that little spot that's hard to get to and hard to find is what overseas traveling is all about. If you are that person - this is your place. It's basically like going to someone's house....someone who has dropped off the grid completely and has a pizza oven in his kitchen. The pizza is homemade - like something your friends with cool parents might make on a Friday night. It's not fancy, but hearty, hot, and tasty. The place itself is open air - and graffiti is encouraged. Take your time, drink an imperial, and don't forget the ice cream. There are certainly better meals to be had in Costa Rica...but few as memorable!!

Folks this is a relaxing open air dining experience that you will never forget. The location is off the beaten track but that is the beauty. PJ's is in a very small village of 65 people in the shadow of the Arenal volcano. Ex-pat John is a warm and fascinating character that sat down, had a beer with us, and shared some valuable recommendations for places to eat in Fortuna (Hormiga. $4 for an incredible plate of typical local food. Get the fish) and hot spring/pool for day use (Los Lagos - $15 - it was gorgeous w amazing pools). Oh yeah the food (almost beside the point) - pizza hit the spot and his homemade ice cream was great.

We literally stumbled onto Pizza John's. It's off the beaten path, a crazy building, a crazy guy, and excellent pizza! We hung out much longer than expected, and laughed and laughed. A place we'll never forget!
