My girlfriend and myself travelled to Risor Holiday in february 2012 an had an amazing time. We stayed in one of the log cabins as it was something different and its something i would definitely do again. Being from Northern Ireland we had to fly from Dublin to Oslo Regge Airport which meant we had further to travel down to Risor. We stayed in Oslo and had to travelled down in the morning on the bus. The scenery on the way down was amazing looking with the snow.
The log cabin was well kitted out and nice a cosy. You were provided with blankets and the place was well cleaned. It also had a power shower, television, free wifi and good kitchen facilities. It was positioned a short walk away from a supermarket which was handy. There was a big Fjord beside the village which was a nice walk down. The scenery was fantastic. There are also alot of winter activities you can do down there like ice fishing, snow holing, sledding and extreme camping. Unfortunately we didn't get to do any of them but it leaves something to do next time.
The staff at the Holiday Village were excellent. They couldn't do enough for you and were willing to help with what ever you needed. They were great fun on the trips and made sure you got the most out of your stay.
We did cross country skiing and dog sledding while there. The staff of the holiday village took you there and organised everything so it was pretty handy. Both were a great experience as id never done them before. It quite a drive away but well worth the wait. You go further up the mountains where there is so much more snow! This is were the Norwegian team train for the winter olympics.
The town of Risor was small but had lovely scenery. During the winter you got quite a chill off the Fjord. It had nice places to eat and a few shops but nothing extravagant. It was only a short walk away but there were buses every now and again. We walked back to the holiday village but i wouldn't recommend it as there isn't footpaths the whole way and the road is quite dangerous.
From photos and activity lists, Risor Holiday Village would be nice to visit in the summer as well. We would like to go then to try the other activities and even bring our kids with us. We didn't bring them in the winter as the cold would be a bit much for them being so young but they'd love it in the summer.
