“A fantastic week at the Bueno”
Reviewed October 8, 2011

Arrived at 10.30 pm and met at door and straight to room, owner took luggage, opened door and told us not to worry about registration until ready and left us with the form.
Staff so friendly, breakfast which was inc in our room rate was goos for Greece, fresh fruit, didfferent eggs cooked each day, bacon or sausage, yoghurt, toast, cake, rolls, ham, cheese, toms and cucumber plus orange juice, tea and coffee. Can eat out front in sunshine. Small pool with sun loungers. Room adequate but not a full kitchen for full self catering only a two ring electric hob, microwave and fridge - ideal for us as so many tavernas around and very cheap (try Vergina on main street left beside supermarket). Didn't need to buy air conditioning as not too hot. Hotel covered in flowers, beach less than 50m away walk through a garden with snack bat and a public pool with free sunloungers, 3Euro on beach. Lovely beach can get very windy with very high waves - we had very calm and very windy days. Quiet hotel as street is off main road. Surroundings lovely. All staff said goodbye as we left.
Felt o welcome - home from home. Its not luxury but clean friendly and perfectly adequate for a two week stay in Crete.
Thank you so much for a great holiday.
Went with First choice from Bristol - old plane and flight cramped and not very comfortable - very little leg room and hardly no reclining. Usually Thomson flights good but not this time!

Room Tip: All rooms inside probably the same - we had a one bed with a small balcony at back - no view, probab...

This place is great. From arriving 2 and half hours late (in the early hours of the morning) and still receiving a warm and generous welcome, to the moment we left, we were treated like favourite family members.
The staff and other guests made this one of the best holidays I've had in ages. The location is perfect for relaxing. Everything you want or need is there without being in your face.
Loved it, would definetly go back.

to be fair to the owners of this establishment i am sure some rooms have been improved . room 2 is not one of them ! the room was a complete tip no sink plug only 3 coat hangers grotty furniture the one good thing is the air con reasonably priced and very effective . the bathroom is a disgrace one day the maids forgot to clean the room when i complained to the reception it was manned by 2 young children . the room was so poor our nightly visitor (a cockroach) didnt even want to stay. the approach to the room resembled a scrap yard First choice i dont think so.

Hotel and breakfast fine. Half board option is a definite no no. Food taken at Hotel Trefon down the road. Food cold, very little choice, just a soup starter, salad if you were lucky you might get lettuce, cucumber and tomatoes, and if extremly lucky feta cheese. Can't really describe the 3 main courses, one vegetarian, one pasta ish, and some sort of meat. First night just bones. You can get a substantial main course in the village for 6 to 8 euros each. If you look at the price difference between B & B and HB your'e better off eating out.

We found this to be good value, clean and a friendly hotel. It is situated in a quite side street of the main road. The hotel is surrounded by some other small family apartments and they a share a medium size garden with a pool bar and food facilities including free sun beds, this then leads to the beach where you can hire sun beds for 3 Euros per day. Between the hotels there is a lovely restaurant. The main road has many restaurants and bars. (No McD's or alike). We particularly liked the one on the right at the top of hotel road called Mylos Taverna which is an outside venue, a two minute walk and you are in Adele that we found two restaurant, the first called, Remember, they really do the best Pizza's and a little further down is Famous Taste this had very nice Greek food a they had the biggest portions I have seen.

Rekymno is just up the road this was a lovely town with a big soul.

We found this was a good destination for a couple to enjoy the local surroundings and the hire a car to explore the west of Crete.

We shall return!

me and my husband have stayed at this hotel many times,iv been all over the world to some exotic destinations, yet we always find our selves back at the bueno aparthotel (motakis village) in rethymnon, i love it...
the food in platenes is the best iv tasted in the world,i would never go all inc to crete because the restaurants are amazing, the hospitality of the cretians is amazing they will go out of there way to make you enjoy your hooliday.
George the owner of the bueno (motakis village as it used to be known) is a great guy he really makes your holiday, the rooms are ideal, with studios or one bed apartments,iv stayed in both, the studio part of the hotel is the new bit which was built when first choice took over the contract from thomsons(before they merged)
theres 3 swimming pools one right on the beach and two smaller ones near the hotel the bar is small but great for a start to the night or a family night around the bar, george makes it fun.and he even performs live music and has greek nights with a bbq
there is a restaurant on site, finikas which is really good, and cheap.the resort itself is just simply one road, its great, not to commercial but still loads to do.theres a great stretch of beach running all the way to the town and the bus takes about 10 mins to rethymnon harbour, which is really pretty and oldy worldy.theres a mcdonalds and such like there now but there wasnt when we first went.theres loads of trips to do and the island is really one of the prettiest greek islands iv visited.theres 2 or even 3 auqua parks and go karts etc for the kids and theres sky park and mosquito bar which is open late if ya fancy a party.head to bar restaurant Relax if ya fancy a great meal with excellent service and a friendly face,Gina and Manos run this bar and the food is top notch.
i love rethymnon and platenes is a little gem hidden in crete, people should definitily visit, but i hope they dont spoil it like malia.....
