oh my word * no sleep no peace & quiet (petrol pumps and vehicle repair garage part of sight) very busy narrow road junction. Rooms dirty & tired. Air con in rooms but not available as owner said too early in season and not hot enough yet (36*) linen & bedding soiled/pool green after two days/lounge area (which my friend thought was the best part of the hotel) was dangerous but "entertaining" two meters approx away from fuel pump. In our humble opinion as parents this hotel is not safe for young children. As for some staff we found "mr bean" offensive & arrogant the owner rudely indiffernt. All this made us sad as it was In total contrast to the rest of the islands and its people. We would return to the area but not this hotel.

Visited here upon the recommendation of family who in turn had been recommended by friends who have stayed there for several years now.....

The resort was OK ( not the most buzzing of places, but none-the-less with plenty going on, some fantastic bars and restaurants, though there are also more lively places just a short cab ride away) but everyone we met, WITHOUT EXCEPTION, in the local bars and restaurants were fantastic, accommodating and entertaining.

More noteably, the Platanes Apartments were indeed lovely, but the overall visit was made all the more special by the warm, kind and friendly welcome we received from the owner George, his staff and friends, whos keen attention and enthusiastic spirit created an ambience and atmosphere which only enhanced the whole stay, making for a very special and enjoyable holiday for all.

Having travelled often in the past, and to many places, I can say that the hospitality demonstrated here was exceptional and will be the barometer against which all my future holidays are measured!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.... look forward to going back and taking more friends to share the experience there soon! THANK YOU x

Me and my bf went on holiday for the first time. the appartments were
nice and the people were friendly. it is situated in a small village on a very busy road and next to a petrol station. it was extremely boring on a night not right for young people. the nearest town was too far to walk. ill never go back to platanes.

this holiday is probably suitable for the older generation. x

there was also a wierd drunken man greek that wakls the street all day shouting.

A very clean friendly hotel with a bar, restaurant and swimming pool. Great access to the local amenities including bars, restaurants, shops and taxis for a cheap ride into the heart of beautiful Rethimno. George and family and are great hosts and made me very welcome. I like Rethimno so much I am emigrating!

When booking our holiday, we weren't told that the apartments overlooked a very busy road (in fact it was in the middle of a T junction). Neither was it mentioned on the internet. Although we were at the back of the apartments, we could still hear the traffic. There is also a pub/disco next door, which again, isn't mentioned in the brochure or on the net. Friends of ours were at the front of the apartments and had to be moved, because they couldn't get any sleep. There is also a taxi rank just across the road and the drivers would gather together at night. Their constant noise (talking, laughing & shouting) also kept residents awake.

Upon arriving at the apartments (very late at night) there was no-one to meet us. The owner was the only person around and he was manning the bar as well as the reception area, which was also in the bar area. As a result of this, it took a while for everyone to be sorted and taken to their rooms. As we were very tired and hungry, all we wanted to do was get something to eat and then go to bed. We went out to the bar and asked for a hot snack, which was very pleasantly served, but which turned out to be cold. As we were so tired we couldn't be bothered with the hassle of sending it back so we eat what we could and went to bed.

At the welcome meeting the next day, we found it virtually impossible to hear what the rep was saying as the noise from the road traffic was so bad. The meeting was held at the front of the apartments, but could have been held further back towards the pool area. We eventually gave up listening and spoke to the rep later. The next few days were absolutely wonderful. Weather was brilliant and the resort had plenty to keep you occupied. We didn't stay around the apartments due to the noise from the traffic.

When we first arrived the owner took our passports from us and informed us that they would be returned the next day. They weren't but we didn't worry about this. We thought they would be safe with them. We thought wrong! When we asked for them back on the Thurs of our second week, we were told that they couldn't find them. We were constantly being asked if we had not had them and lost them ourselves. Several suggestions made by us to find them were ignored. The loss was immediately reported to our Cosmos rep who did everything he could to help us, but even he came up against a brick wall when dealing with the staff. We found the attitude of the staff towards us very unsatisfactory. They did little to help us find our passports. We then spent the next two days trying to sort out the problem, going to the police station to report the loss and taking up the time of the rep, who was doing the work of the apartment staff. Although we suggested to the staff to go round every apartment and ask everyone to check their passports, they didn't take us up on it. In the end, our rep had to do it himself. This produced results immediately. It turned out that the owner himself had given our passports to another resident without checking them first. They obviously assumed they had the right ones and didn't check them until they were asked to. What angered us most about this, was that the owner and the rest of the staff constantly insisted that they had not given them out to anyone else and that we must have had them and lost them. Apparently, they check passports before giving them out, so they say!! So why did they hand ours out to someone else? Even when we got our passports back, we didn't get an apology from them.
Cosmos themselves couldn't do enough for us. They paid for us to have a meal and did all the ringing round and the leg work involved in getting us our passports back. They also visited the police on our behalf when they were found, saving us the hassle of having to go back to the station yet again. A full report was made out at the end of our holiday by Cosmos.

Although we had a good time initially, we felt that the loss of our passports and the attitude of the staff at the apartments, spoilt our holiday for the last few days. We certainly won't be going back again. However, we have no qualms about booking future holidays through Cosmos. Their service and the help and support given to us was outstanding.
