The hotel was lovely, the staff was very helpful. It's a family owned hotel and you get that from rhe feeling of a very cozy atmosphere. You have to try the cocktails that Michael makes at the bar, a guy with fantastic long hair and a very cheerful attitude.

Four of us all 60 plus just returned from 14 fabulous days at this lovely hotel. Our flight out from Gatwick was as scheduled and transfer to hotel smooth and very scenic. We were checked in immediately and shown to our rooms on first floor by Michael (Son of owners of the hotel) he explained how Aircon and door lock worked and was very welcoming. We had paid extra for sea view and we had rooms directly over the bar/swimming pool/beach area. Lovely views. . The hotel was beautifully clean and the smells of a kind of scented candle wafted everywhere. The food Buffet breakfast and dinner were more than adequate, For breakfast there was always eggs (cooked various ways) bacon, sausage, tomatoes etc etc. Various cereals, fruits, breads jams etc etc . Dinners were always soup, various meats, fish and endless variations of salads, and many different choices of desserts. We chose a white med- sweet wine every night which was delicious. I must admit by the end of 14 days the dinners did become slightly monotonous but we usually find that the case wherever we go. The hotel arranges a BBQ/Greek night every Tuesday. This was superb and not too be missed. The food was endless and the choice unbelievable. We paid only 12 euros for this. The pools were well kept and the beach area was beautiful The beach chairs/umbrellas were run very efficiently and there was also a boat on the sand serving cocktails run by Demetri and served on the beach by the very lovely Maria. Whilst there we booked a cab into Rethymnon and walked upto the Fortezza and around old Rethymnon. Our cab driver Costas insisted we not pay him on our journey in but said he would return at 3pm to collect us and take us back. He was there at the Harbour dead on 3pm. We also did the 5 village trip on the Little Yellow Train, tickets available at reception. For 17.5 euros we got 4 hours driving into the hills and wandering the villages. It was very hot up in the villages so if you go take plenty of water. The hotel laid on entertainment most nights, DJs, Belly dancers, Greek dance lessons, They also laid on entertainment for the breakfast time but too be honest this was a bit much for us first thing in the morning listening to saxaphones or pianos. The area around the hotel had numerous shops and bars but the road is extremely busy and I would be a bit worried if we had had our grandchildren with us. Everyone who worked in the hotel was so lovely and we shed a few tears saying our farewells. If we had a complaint at all it would be that the bar most definately needs 2 barman working it at night, 45 minutes waiting for drinks was a bit too long. But perhaps they can remedy that one. Our holiday was with Thomson and to top a perfect holiday off we were flown home from Heraklion on the new Boeing 757 Dreamliner. It was what it says a dream. A beautiful way to end a beautiful holiday.

Room Tip: We had rooms 111 and 112 which were a bit noisy being over the bar .

Just had 11 nights in this lovely greek hotel. Had a room on first floor with a side sea view which meant we had welcome shade and could also leave balcony doors open but still have complete privacy. All the staff were great and had a smile for everyone even at very busy times. Barbeque was really good and it was pleasant having breakfast to the sounds of a pianist. Absolutely no traffic noise just the sounds of waves lapping onto the beach - very relaxing. Would definitely like to return in the future.

Just spent 2 glorious weeks at this hotel, our room was to the back of the hotel not on the beach side which I was ready to complain about but my wife suggested we try the bedroom for one night, the room was large, clean and quiet so we decided to stay and that was the right decision, we both felt the food was excellent, staff were pleasant with ready smiles. The only problem was the lack of any were to walk after dinner except the very busy side road. We shall go back next year.

Room Tip: Don't be afraid of the rear bedrooms if you need a good nights sleep

This was our tenth visit to the Golden Beach. The people at this hotel are wonderful. They really go out of their way to make you feel at home. Voula, Lily, Diogenes and Maria are just great!

The hotel is very nice with a great pool and located on a beautiful beach! The sunrises and sunsets are incredible. As for the food....breakfast and lunch are wonderful. We have never done dinner, not because it is not good, we go to the town to certain restaurants. Also, many times we miss the dinner because we are out and about exploring other towns. Also you can get the lunch there and it replaces your dinner, no charge! They have an out of this world fruit salad! Many good things for lunch!

We travel a very long way to get back to this one hotel every year. We live in Florida! I really think if we couldn't stay here we would not come to Crete. It really makes a difference feeling so comfortable. That is all because of the wonderful staff.

The rooms are simple (and very clean), but have everything you need. You are on vacation anyway.....get out of the room and explore this magnificent island. Get to know the people, they are amazing!!!!

The hotel has beautiful gardens throughout and beautiful art work surrounds every corner of this hotel. Every year they just keep adding beautiful things to look at! Diogenes definitely has that under control. :)

The location is fantastic. The town has many great Tavernas! Make sure to stop at Steki and La Strada (for cocktails) , To. Fournaki ( incredible pizza, yes i said pizza) and Sky Park. The hotel also has a great bar. Be sure to visit Letza!

I have reviewed this hotel in the past and I honestly really love it.

Room Tip: You want to ask for a sea view room. Facing the pool. Top floor is the best.

We recently returned from a 10 day trip to this Crete hotel and were moderately satisfied. Staff were great, although, being mainly occupied by Germans, you did somehow feel slightly second best. Not a lot, but we both felt it. We paid extra to get a room with a sea view, which is okay I suppose. The showers are very small, and have one of those dreadful clingy curtains.( Both our rooms were the same.) TV gave only one English station, CNN, but again, not a real problem.
Air conditioning was really appreciated and worked very well in 30+ temps.
Food. Hmm. Plenty of choice, all Greek style plus the odd pasta dish. But it was always only luke warm. I checked the bay maree warming counter one morning and it was quite cold, as were the plates. Always! Go for some sweet, - lovely stuff, but the plates were very often warm, straight from the dishwasher. Ten days of this took the edge off the place for us.
Barbecue night was very good, but an extra 12 Euros, 15 if you were B+B. Good deal for them.
Lots of holiday information folders, in German, Polish, Dutch etc, but no English?
You have to pay 5 Euros to use the sunbeds, but this seems the norm on most beaches, private or not. Golden Beach does have a very good beach, better than most.
One or two glitches with room service. We complained once (no towels) and were rewarded with a shower room full of tobacco smoke on our return. We are non smokers. Ugh.
There was one big baddie. A disco, which started quite well, but degenerated into that headbanging thump thump thump. A large portion of guests were pensioners/older people; say 85%. Why on earth the hotel saw this stuff as a good idea???. It also got louder, and louder as the evening went on. In the end, at 2325 hrs I rang down and told them that I would go down and turn it off if they did not. I gave them ten minutes, them my wife stopped me by phoning again. They did turn it down shortly after, but the noise level did it for me, and choice of music ????.
Beware. If there is a disco advertised and you are a little older, you will not be happy. One evening completely ruined by over excessive noise and poor choice of music.
Front desk staff very helpful in all areas, as was our experience in dining room and at the bar.
All in all we enjoyed our stay in Crete, but if the Golden Beach just paid a bit more attention to the above we would probably go again, minus the stupid disco.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the sea are best, but not all of them have a full sea view. Some are set back in a seco...

Being a couple travelling abroad for the first time we didn't have any ideas what we would arrive too, but are so glad we did.

Although the hotel was a fair distance from Heraklion airport (1hr), when we arrived the staff were very helpful, giving us times of meals and what to do with the room's airconditioning etc. As we arrived in the late afternoon our first meal was almost straight away and being a person who suffers from a nut allergy, I had to address that before sitting down. Although the kitchen staff's english was limited she recommended seeing the receptionist, (who's English is superb) and suitable eating arrangements made. Every meal after that I was spotted and told what I could and couldn't have, which was marvellous! If you're a traveller who wants english food abroad then you will have to eat out, as the majority of the meals are local style dishes or european origin, why people travel abroad to have a chip shop dinner is a mystery to me, but that's my advise none the less!!!

Really this set a precident for the holiday, instantly making me and my partner feel much easier about the whole experience. Overall the hotel's guests are mostly of an older generation than ourselves (we are a rare breed of youth which aren't party animals) but we found that it caters to most tastes out there and wouldn't ignore you should you need help. The rooms have the basics but not much more, (I have stayed in more expensive places in the UK which were much much worse) meaning entertainment is either outside next to the pool, in the bar or on the beach. The bar staff are brilliant with service, supplying giggle juice in a timely manner.

One thing that was noticed which maybe let the hotel down is the noise level, it can be quite noisey if your room is near to reception, but overall didn't cause much discomfort. I'd come back in a heartbeat and my partner feels the same. A solid 7/10.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the reception area and bar are much quieter.
