“Better than expected!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2009

I had read so many negative reports on the Christina apts after I had booked the holiday, I was very nervous about what we were going to find. When we arrived, we were greeted by Joan and Aiden (who are fabulous people!) and taken to our apartment which was clean and comfortable. Yes it was basic, but this is Greece and we had not paid 5 star prices. The whole complex was spotless, the pool very clean too. Kostas, Nicos and Christina are brilliant and very hospitable as are their parents and Anne marie behind the bar.(Thanks for the Olive Oil, Nicos - it's beautiful)! The entertainment nights are for everyone. The one we enjoyed the most was the BBQ with the Greek dancers - everyone joined in that week and we had a ball! The food is great, if they don't have something you ask for, you can bet they will get it for you for the next day - well done ladies. The road is busy and noisy outside but not so noisy that it spoils your relaxation. Just be careful crossing it as with any roads!! We were advised of this on arrival. We had a great time and will go back again. My worries were unfounded and I feel some reviews were a little unfair. Thanks again to all at the Christina!

I stayed at the Christina Apartments with my 17 year old daughter, my brother and my 70 year old dad. We all had a wonderful holiday, mainly due to the staff and owners of the apartments, who went out of their way to make our holiday as good as possible. My dad is already saving up so that he can go back again next year.

We had a good holiday here - though not the best but not the worst.
The Christina apartments are situated on a very busy road. it can be quite loud during the day time but you find you get used to it. There are many restaurants down the same road and a few shops, lots of supermarkets and for some reason lots of fur shops.

The staff at Christina are really great esp nicos and kostas (unsure of spelling). Also anne marie who works behind the bar is fab. The staff really made our holiday.

HOWEVER although the communal areas of the hotel were fine, our room was in dire need of an update. Unfortunately i think we were given the basement room that a few people have mentioned - room 106. The bathroom was tiny, not particularly clean and the shower was so small that it was hard to fit in it! also above the sink was a hole in the wall which they had covered with a paper poster! behind this poster you could quite clearly see drainage pipes and every time ANYONE had a shower all the water would run down here.... VERY VERY loud.
Added to this we continuously had cockroaches. As we hardly spent any time in our room at all we just put up with it. it didnt ruin our holiday (if it had we wud hv reuested a room swap) but PLEASE if you are coming here and plan on spending a lot of time in your room - ASK NOT TO BE GIVEN 106!!

Entertainment wise, you get karaoke, bingo.. the usual - all good fun and it doesnt go on too late. The BBQ is a must as the food is excellent and the greek dancing is very funny when u get involved.

The restaurants nearby are all verrrrrry similar. very similar indeed. However, the sunday roast at Neighbours is great, The white lady is good fun...and...

if you like indian food then PLEASE go to Shimbala (think thats what its called - its just over the bridge) IT WAS THE BEST INDIAN FOOD WEVE EVER HAD. EVER. and a lot of other people agreed. The two chefs are Bangladeshi and very very good. The owner is a delight.

anyway, it was a good holiday. but i would not return unless the hotel had an update and the restaurants became a little less similar!!!

The beach in rethymnon is very stoney. bring plastic shoes. Rethymnon centre is great - make sure u visit the irish bar - you will find it :)

We have just returned from our 2nd visit to the Christina apartments having first stayed there May 2007 for 1 week and pledging that we would return for 2 weeks as soon as possible.
We have never returned to the same place before but the friendliness of all the staff and the value for money offered by the apartments is such that we could not resist.
Owners Kosta,Nicos,Christina and the other staff, Joan,Aiden,Anne-Marie,Sarah,Joe and anyone else we may have missed (sorry!) are the best. From the welcome when you first arrive to the little touches like leaving water, tea, coffe, milk in your apartment for your arrival are all part of the excellent service. The rooms are of a great standard...remember this is budget self catering in Greece. Some people seem to require 5 star hotel standards at 3 star self catering prices. We have travelled to Greece 4 times and never have we had better. The apartments are clean and well maintained with excellent plumbing and let's face it, much as I love Greece, you can't always say that!
We never had a problem getting a sunbed no matter what time of day we made our way to the pool area. And believe me after the excellent hospitality shown by Kosta, Nicos and Anne-Marie that was often lunchtime!
We would recommend using the on site cafe for snacks and a great value breakfast. If it's not on the menu just ask.One of our friends is a vegaterian with a fussy palette when it comes to wine but 1 word to the staff and her own supply appeared and was kept topped up.Unlike some places we have stayed we never felt that the prices were excessive and as much as we are realistic enough to know what we are a source of revenue it never felt that way.
We booked for the BBQ and were not disapointed with the excellent range and supply of food or the dancers...be prepared to join in!
Some reviews have mentioned the road outside the apartments. It would be untrue to say that there is no noise from the road but we never felt disturbed by it and the patio doors are all fitted with excellent shutters that totally block out light and noise.
Others have mentioned that they never saw the pool being cleaned and so I apologise for their ignorance to the fact that the pool has an advanced filter system that avoids the use of damaging chemicals and makes it a much more pleasent pool to use with you not smelling like a bottle of bleach when you get out of it! A more observant guest would have seen the staff throwing crystals into the pool every night..we joked that they were feeding the fish! After a day of heavy rain Kosta came to the pool 6am to empty it and refill such is their commitment to high standards.
Outside the apartments you are spoiled by the selection of places to eat from the local Chinese and Indian to a huge rangeof both Greek restaurants to those catering for those tourists that still need their pie and chips!
We would recommend Famous Taste (cross the road and about 100 yards to the left just after the petrol station) Say Hello to Maria, she is a gem with a wicked sense of humour! A glass of pink ouzo and a fruit plate at the end of every meal and the bill always about 10 euros for a good meal with drinks per head.
For the sports fans cross the road and about 10 minutes stroll to the right is the Sports Center a great little bar that serves food also, here your waiter will be George, another star. We have spent hours here on rainy days as they have a stock of board games, cards, dominos and all the electronic games that kids cannot do without.
Across the road is the White Lady where 3 nights a week they have Greek Dancing. We have never eaten there but from our table at the sports bar it looked like a good time was to be had by all!
Further afield there are many more restaurants to try..the Shalimar Indian is good value for money and the service also of a good standard. Yiannis also got a thumbs up and so did the Vergina....we had to visit because my Husband spotted a Lambretta scooter as we went by but I was glad to stay!
To get into Rethymnon we travelled by bus, getting a ticket from Christina reception for 1.2 euros single trip as the buses themselves do not take cash. The bus stop is on the same side of the road just opposite the Famous Taste, don't bother with a timetable as they come along about every 10 minutes.
Rethymnon is a lovely mixture of cobbled streets with amazing architecture to gaze up at and designer shops. There is a market on Thursday and Saturday and the buses get busier on those days...also queuing at bus stops seems a bit pointless as there is a mad crush to get on when the bus gets there!
We had a fabulous lunch overlooking the Harbour, again great value for excellent quality. And a chill out at the Barcode Bar opposite the Marina where they had the best loos in the world!!
Would we go back to Christina again?...we've already looked to book for next year!
A big thank you all at the Christina for another great holiday from Steve and Amanda!

Just got back yesterday 21st September from a week's stay at the Christina Apartments. I cannot believe they have received the stars that they have. We were given a basement room, down a long dark flight of marble stairs. The room was musty, the bathroom not at all appealing and the view was a blank wall. The beds were the most uncomfortasble we have ever been given anywhere. The road, which runs between Heraklion and Rethymnon runs right outside the front door and the noise when you are using the bar or sunbeds is frankly appaling. There are some nice restaurants in the resort, but, again, the noise from the road makes conversation almost impossible. There was entertainment at the Christina every night, but we don't really care for Bingo or children singing Karaoke. The staff were helpful and pleasant though, but this is one place we will never go again. Also, the small resort was bizarrely full of expensive shops selling furs - about ten of these shops- not at all something I expected to see there. Not really able to take walks because of the volume of the traffic and dangerous too because of the speeds. A good place for children, but do consider that road and watch they don't get out.

Literally got back from a 2 wk stay at Christina appts. I think, reading some of the negative feedback, that there is clearly a lack of understanding that when you pay for a budget holiday, you will get a budget holiday!!! Yes the rooms are fairly basic however they are suitable for what is needed and are regularly cleaned throughout the week. Yes, the pool is quite small and can get crowded but the hotel is minutes away from the beach so there is always an alternative. What made this holiday for me was the sheer friendliness of the staff, nothing is too much trouble (including staying up until 3.30am to make sure everyone gets onto the coach and is thanked and waved off). It almost felt like we'd been adopted as a members of the family and I know we're not the only ones who think this (ask the guys who come back every year!!) Big thanks to Costa, Nikos, Christina, Joan, Aden, Sarah, Joe and Anna-marie for all their hospitality. Also, to Papa, thanks for the raki but I think we'll stay off the 'medicine' for a little while now.

As far as the resort is concerned, the hotel is about 6km out of Rethymnon itself but there are lots of bars and restaurants nearby. Recommend Remember, White lady & Holjday bar (watch out for the Jellyfish!). If you do want to go into town, it's a nice walk and takes about 60-90 mins depending how many stops along the way.

If you're happy to spend a bit extra cash on a meal, I also recommend Alvi Restaurant in Rethymno. It's quite pricey but the food more than justifies it. Go on, treat yourself!!

We stayed at the appartments in July this year. Would definitely not go back. The staff were on the whole extremely unhelpul. The accommodation was ok but in serious need of some upgrading/refurbishment. The pool small and not enough sunbeds to go round. The sunbathing area is very cramped. During our 2 weeks stay we never saw the pool being cleaned!!!

The resort itself is great & we would consider going back , some great bars & restaurants- however not suitrable for families with young children as the road is very busy.
