“Very Disappointing”
Reviewed October 24, 2012

We have just spent a week at this place and were very disappointed. I accept it is October and towards the end of the season but it failed to deliver for us. It avertised evening entertainment, lunchtime menu, a la carte menu and evening buffet but none of these things were available. We were not even told this when we checked in, we simply found out when we went to get it. The evening menu offered to us was fixed with 2 choices and one of them one night was burger and chips! Every meal I asked for small portions for my two kids but they simply got the same amount as it was too much trouble to make somthing smaller. My 4yr old got the same size portions that I got, what a waste of food. They have nice pools but they are too cold to go in. The heated indoor pool was obviously switched off as it was not any warmer than the outdoor pool, it certainly was not the temperature it was advertised to be. Whilst sitting on the sun loungers one day I asked for a drink from the bar at 2.30pm and was told the bar wasn't open. We tried to buy some lunch but could not as they were not making any.
The restaurant staff were very helpful and friendly but could not convince the kitchens to makes smaller portions or even a lunch. Once our meal package ran out we went into Rethymnon and found some excellent places to eat. I asked the reception staff if they sold stamps and I was told "No, you will have to go and try some local shops to see if they have any". Very helpful.
Overall we felt that there was no real effort being made (with the exception of the waitresses) to look after or entertain guests. The resort itself is nice and in the middle of the summer it will be a different place but having experienced this we will not be back in the summer. At this time of the year do not waste your money or your RCI points as better is available elsewhere.

The plus side to this holiday was the staff who were very friendly and helpful. While the hotel claims to be suitable for disabled people this was not really the case. We booked a disabled room but I would not recommend this hotel or indeed the resort for disabled holidays. On arrival we were given a room with steps and no shower which was totally unsuitable or usable for my father in law. We were moved the next day to a proper disabled room but this was very shabby with hardly any storage space (one small cupboard for 3 adults) and no shelving whatsoerver in the bathroom to put things on. Getting into the hotel with the wheelchair was a feat in itself we either had to use a service lift via a very steep slope or do a 1/4 mile trip round the back of the hotel and down a rough road full of potholes. Most of the time my husband had to push my father on the road which was quite frightening for him. The complex is tired and in need of an update, which I understand is planned for next year. The pool area was good and there was a nice bar area. Beware of any recommendations made by the Rep with regard to places to eat etc ( I think they must get some sort of commission) as the ones we tried were awful.

Room Tip: Overlooking the Pool.

Stayed in the self contained apartments (part of RCI timeshare) within this complex for one week. Two storey that can sleep 4 with lots of space. Good sized balcony, kitchen had everything one needs & two large bathrooms - one with huge bath. Several well maintained pools to relax by & enjoy. I used some of the facilities including having a manicure/pedicure. Very worthwhile. Easy walking distance to the beach, great eating places all around. It is one hour drive from the airport which is quite expensive in the taxi. But I would return as a great restful holiday.

we booked our trip through RCI and had a wonderful week in June we took our Daughter and Grandaughter, and a week was not long enough.
The apartrment was clean and had everything we needed for a week, the pool was like getting into a warm bath even at 8.30am with our grandaugher who spent most of her day in there.
There was plenty to do and see in crete we got the local bus into Rethymno and spent the day sightseeing and shopping and it only cost us 1.50euro return each - bargain.
Love Crete will go back again.

Somewhat older than Leoniki Residence, but with a beautiful "private poll" just outside the door. Free jacuzzi. As in all the Aegean Blue Hotels, excellent and friendly staff. We just love the place.

We stayed in this hotel with an rci timeshare and found it very good. The rooms were clean, and despite having a one room apartment, the main bedroom was up a small flight of stairs with its own bathroom so it felt like two bedrooms. Kitchen fairly basic as you'd expect in Greece, but fine for breakfasts and lunches. Swimming pool great and short walk to lovely beach. There were some minor maintenance problems which were sorted efficiently.

We arrived in Crete to rain which quickly developed into a violent thunderstorm which made our journey from the airport to the hotel rather adventurous as we travelled down some very steep windy roads in poor visibility.
Our hotel in Crete was the Grand Leoniki and Leoniki Residence, in Platenes, just outside of Rethymno in the Prefecture of Rethymno. We arrived at about 7.30pm and were greeted by very friendly reception staff that helped us with our cases from the shuttle bus up the steps to the welcoming foyer where we booked in. I was promptly given a beautiful single rose as a present. We were RCI guests and had Platinum membership so our one bedroom apartment was upgraded to a two bed two bathroom apartment the next day.
We were encouraged to purchase a half board package which included two entertainment evenings and also breakfast and evening meals. We were taken to the taverna where we saw the wonderful display of salads, bread and fruit and then in another area the hot meals were set out beautifully in heated tureens and other hot food could be cooked for you whilst you waited. The desert station with the ice creams and mouth watering puddings was very tantalizing and extensive. I have also never tasted such wonderful Greek Yogurt.

Breakfasts were amazing with once again a huge selection of breads, cold foods, cereals, continental type cold meats and also on the hot counter selections of mushrooms, bacon, fried eggs, poached eggs and omelettes all prepared freshly for you by very friendly chefs who were only too pleased to prepare your food to your exact preference. By the end of the first day we knew we were going to have trouble keeping our weight down as everything looked so appetising and deserving of sampling!

The hotel was set out well with apartments set around the pools and surrounded by very well-manicured local flora and fauna. DVD’s and books could be borrowed from the Club house.
The health and Spa centre was situated in the Grand Leoniki which both hotels shared. The Spa area had a heated pool, saunas, steam rooms and a Jacuzzi and where massage and every type of health and beauty treatment were on offer. There was also a squash court and gymnasium and was very well laid out over two floors. The staff in the Spa area were superb and made you feel very ,so each day I visited the complex to use the Jacuzzi .

The hotel was about three minutes from the sea front were there were sun chairs and parasols a plenty and a nice beach bar, open late into the season in October. The hotel was also central to a lot of local restaurants of all different types and cafés and mini markets and gift shops so it has plenty to occupy oneself with if you wanted to leave the hotel complex.
Although the weather was disappointing (the worst they had for October in 25years) whilst we were there for two weeks, the hotel wasn’t disappointing. Our apartment was spacious and well-appointed and the maid service was good and friendly.

The hotel manager Mr Yannis Zoulakis led a team who went out of their way to spoil you and cater to your every need. They were also eager to take on good ideas or suggestions that you made in relation to running the hotel which we thought was excellent because it showed they valued their clients opinions. We were really sad to say goodbye to the restaurant manager, chefs, waiters and waitresses who managed to make us feel very special.

This hotel is very family friendly and is well worth a stay, it is clean and intimate and well located on the island for day trips and excursions. We would recommend it to those who visit Crete.

Room Tip: The Grand Leoniki is the more modern part of the hotel complex but both have very nice apartments. A...
