Certificate of Excellence

After spending two most enjoyable weeks at Le Sylvamar. Two adults with two children aged 6 and 3. Booked again with Kelair, Ballinasloe and experience was enjoyable as usual from "Booking to unpacking". Staff during booking were very knowledgeable patient and professional. Accommodation was as their normal standards "Pristine". Gas Barbecue and decking as standard. Couriers Andrea and Jim - Very helpful, polite and professional, nothing was a problem. Well run, clean site with loads to do. Entertainment every night, staff very polite, pool excellent for all ages. Sea 1km away but not suitable for children to swim in...currents very strong. Situated approx 30 minutes from Biarritz and 2 hours from Lourdes. (If interested in shopping Bab2 in Biarritz is worth a visit). Would definitely recommend, Thanks and well done again Kelair.

We stayed here for 3 weeks, arriving at the end of May. The Eurocamp mobiles are at the very end of the campsite, which we liked as it's away from some of the noisier elements, and the Eurocamp mobiles are all brand new. However, the layout of these new mobiles is extremely bad with the kitchen cramped up one corner and very little storage space throughout. The beds now have solid foam mattresses (the old mobiles had sprung mattresses) which are unbelievably hard and uncomfortable and I got very little sleep. The Eurocamp mobiles are under the tall pine trees and there is a problem with sap, which drops down over everything and is very difficult to remove. I was disappointed with the general area of the campsite because as it was early season no tidying up had been done and the whole campsite had an air of being unkempt and unloved. They were also busy building on new areas which I felt should have been completed prior to the campsite opening for the season. There was no security at night, the regulations regarding the pool, eg only Speedo swimming shorts, were completely ignored. We were told these regulations only apply in July and August, likewise any security. By far the worst aspect was the fact that every weekend during low season (not July and August funnily enough) hoardes of people come from over the border to spend a presumably cheap weekend on the site. There are so many of them that they seem to take over the facilities and also make quite a lot of noise late into the night. However, the rule regarding no noise between 11pm-7am only applies in, wait for it, July and August! We had a wonderful holiday but it was despite the campsite and not because of it. The beach at Labenne is not suitable for children and in fact we, as adults, didn't like it at all. The sand is very coarse and the sea is very rough, it's really a surfers' beach. We went to Cap Breton which is a very nice little town with a lovely beach, good clean public toilets, showers on the beach, lots of places for coffee and take away lunches. Our favourite town was St. Jean de Luz: Really pretty and a beautiful beach, would love to return. I must say a word about the Eurocamp couriers, Colin and Dot: They were fantastic, incredibly friendly, hard working, helpful, a real treat to have a mature couple as couriers instead of students. We would holiday in this area again but would definitely not return to Sylvamar.

Nowhere close to Biarritz - should say Labenne...
Lots of stuff to do for the kids - indoor and outdoor pools, basket, football pitches and kids clubs. Beach is nearby, easily cyclable. Bayonne and Anglet only 15mins drive away. Nice variety of options, especially good just out of season..... Even a spa onsite to treat yourself!

We (2 adults 3 kids- 2, 4 and 8 years) arrived on the camp site on the 8th June, unfortuantly the weather was poor for the first 4-5 days. The pool areas are good, the inside pool is ideal for the young ones and great if its raining. The other pools include slides and a paddling pool for the toddlers and larger slide and area for the bigger children as part of that area there is the slow moving river, which the bigger kids really enjoyed. There is a separate pool for the swimmers. Space can be an issue at the weekends but we nevr failed to get a seat in the evening. We ate in the restaurant on 2 occassions, the food was good both times and they do a menu for the kids. On the second evening the service was slow and the waitress not very friendly but she was the only staff member in our entire stay like that. The staff in the shop and bike hire were wonderful. apart from bikes you can hire tennis and badminton rackets, books etc. The shop is adaquate, the bakery is great but we did most of our grocery shopping in Labenne about a 5 min drive. Durning the week it was quiet but the weekends were very busy with french and spanish campers. I think you need a car to get around especially if the weather is not great. We hired the bikes at the site and we felt there were good value as always the longer you hire them the cheaper the daily rate, there are good cycle pathways to 3 nearby towns, between 5-7 km away. I would not hesitate to recommend this camp site especially for the younger ones.

The park is set in a mature pine forest about 1km from the beach. We stayed with Keycamp and the caravan and the service we received were very good. The key camp caravans were located a good distance from the swimming pool / bar area which meant a lot of walking but it meant that the key camp area was very quiet at night.

The beach close to the campsite did not look safe for swimming or bathing because of big Atlantic waves, and strong currents. We went to Capbreton beach about 5km up the coast.

Pool is fantastic with a water slide and lazy river. There is also a small pool and indoor pool for the little children. There was plenty of space during our stay in early June but the campsite was about 50% full,

The onsite restaurant is very good and there is also an excellent restaurant right next door to the campsite.

The campsite is about a 20 minute drive from Biarritz and about an hours drive from San Sebastian, both of these make great day trips. I would also recommend visiting the train at La Rune. This is an old train which brings you to the summit of the Pyrenees. Well worth a trip. I think a car is essential if you wish to stay in this campsite.

We travelled in June and the weather was a bit mixed, but there was exceptionally bad weather in Europe at that time and I understand it is not typical.

The campsite has great facilities including the following:
• On site small supermarket – Pretty basic
• Wifi – Available all over the camp; its not free but the coverage is excellent.
• Clothes washing and drying
• Bicycle hire
• Tennis Court
• Football
• Playground

We booked 1 week through Thomson alfresco and the mobile was lovely although a little smaller than expected.
The restaurant and bar were nice with very friendly staff.
The indoor pool area was perfect for my kids (aged 2&3) although I sometimes felt I was babysitting as many parents left their kids unattended. Lovely playground with bouncy castle. It really is the perfect site for those with young children.
Be sure to visit the supermarket in the mornings for the best pain aux raisins you'll ever have!

This was our very first holiday on a campsite and didn´t really know what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised at what we received ! We arrived around 1.05 PM at the campsite and reception was kind enough to atend to us (eventhough they usually close at 1 PM) We got given the key straight away with all the info and were asked to come back later to organise the rest.
Our whole stay was fabulous... the children enjoyed the Mini Club soo much and the girls there took good care of them. It isn´t as strict as entertainement is in hotels (if you leave the children there, they are quite free to come and go as they please so if you are worried of them wondering off, I would advice to stay with them.) Both our boys (4 years old and 7 years old) knew within 30 minutes how to get to the mini club from our Caravan (it was really close by) and so we left them quite free in going there and back. The Mini Disco is brilliant too, one of the best ones we have seen as it is more like a disco with up to date music.
The pool area is brilliant for kids the age of ours. It has many shallow areas where smaller children can "swim" around or play in without to much worry... The Lazy river is soo much fun too and for even smaller kids they have the indoor paradise.
The weekends get very busy with Spanish guests who sometimes can get really noisy at night, we just went over (on 2 different occasions with different guests) and politely asked them to turn music, etc down and they did so straight away. The whole "let´s go camping, play cards or read and have some peace and quite" doesn´t seem to appear the case when Spanish people go camping but they were nice enough and don´t think they realised how noisy they sometimes are :-)
We had a fantastic stay and will definately be back again next year.
