“A wonderful week in Caunes Minervois”
Reviewed April 11, 2018 for a stay in April 2018

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in la maison de la charite. The owners were very communicative and sentloads of information by email. The house is a little gem with a kitchen I was sad to leave and comfy green chairs for reading and relaxing. The upstairs study was particularly helpful for allowing my son to do his revision on the couple of rainy days we had. Having an outside space was also extremely useful. If I win the lotto Id love a place just like that. Thanks again.

“I fell in love with Caunes”
Reviewed September 14, 2017 for a stay in August 2017

Booked this authentic and deceptively spacious house literally at the last minute after holidaying in Caunes just 2 weeks before ! I fell in love with the place so returned with a different friend . Pam and Richard the owners were absolutely brilliant and the communication was second to none . The house has everything you need and you really felt that you were having a true French experience . Caunes is a truly delightful place that has bars and restaurants to suit everyone . We loved Le Mangeorie for the music ( great sax player) especially .
One afternoon we went to a free concert in the abbey which was so atmospheric.
Thanks to the fabulous owners . I'll be back very soon !

Caune is a charming village and so is the house which is over 3 floors. The terrace is cool where you want it to be and sunny too.
Great prompt relationship with the owner, Richard.
Lovely walks in the hills and the Med is about an hour's drive on near empty roads.
Friendly locals and wonderful views of the Pyrenees.
We'll miss it!

“History, privacy, space, stunning night skies”
Reviewed January 24, 2017 for a stay in July 2016

Excellent location for enjoying the beautiful small town of Caunes.
As another review said, the bedrooms did get hot at night, however, we found leaving the bedroom windows open (with the lights off so as not to attract mozzies) and the windows of the middle floor also open until we went to bed helped to bring the temperature down a bit. Also, we had brought a travel black out blind with us for our toddler which wasn't needed due to the shutters in his room so we left that over our window during the day which meant the heat of the sun didn't build up so much during the day.
We stayed late July - beginning of August for two weeks and there was a series of classical concerts going on at the Abbey. They were open air concerts so we were treated hearing the rehearsal on the Wednesday and the concert on the Thursday all for free from the courtyard as we ate dinner! As my husband and I are Music teachers this was quite a treat! They also had a Smurfs exhibition which was great fun.
We hired a car and drove all over to various towns and beaches. Narbonne plage is a beautiful beach though be sure to check the wind forecast. One day we went and soon had to give up as the sand was blowing up into our faces. We swam in lakes and rivers as well as the sea and had an absolutely fantastic fortnight exploring the local area. Carcassonne with it's stunning castle is an absolute must visit. We went twice.
We ended each day with a stroll around Caunes Minervois to tire out our little boy before enjoying the courtyard. We had a walk near the local quarry, and bought a beautiful vase made by a local potter at his studio in the village. Everyone in the village is incredibly friendly and didn't at all mind us tourists! What we especially loved is how French it felt. Sounds a daft thing to say but we barely heard any English being spoken for the entire fortnight which made us feel like we were having a proper French experience, not just a mini-England in a hot place holiday!
I'm sure we will return to the region at some point in the future and will be looking you up if we do!

“Historic house”
Reviewed November 8, 2016 for a stay in July 2016

3 stories of history, plus a courtyard. Very comfortable and interesting, central to walk everywhere in Caunes Minervois, and to park nearby. For a week long stay in Summer, next time I would bring small electric fans. The lower 2 stories are air-conditioned, the charming bedrooms are at the top and are not. We loved our stay.

“Caunes Minervous”
Reviewed November 14, 2015 for a stay in November 2015

The property was very centrally situated in Caunes however the one draw back are the stairs in the house. The bedrooms are not on the same floor as the bathroom/toilet which at night was a bit of an exercise and the stairs creak loudly.
