“Summer holiday”
Reviewed September 10, 2013

We stayed here in August 2013 on a spacious comfort pitch with running water en drainage. Very nice fenced pool for our toddlers. Good size heated deep pools. Toilets were clean and showers always warm. Free Internet, good snacks or pizzas at the take away. Big ice creams at the bar. Fishing lake is fenced.

'Negative': 90% of the guests were Britain, our children didn't connect very well because of the language difference.

We stayed at this park as a family group in a Eurocamp tent in August 2013.
The big plus of this park is the number of facilities (not all of interest to us, but maybe to others): heated pools, water slides, pedal karts, pony trekking, tennis, mini golf, fishing. There are the usual Eurocamp/Keycamp children's activities, and the park itself puts on its own activities for children in the morning and for families in the afternoon. This means you can pick and choose which suits you best. As an example, Park children's activities included little "trial" sessions of pony trekking, mini golf, tennis as well as football, etc. the park family activities were things like bike rides and circus skills.
Our kids loved the pools and also the pedal karts - enjoying chasing each other round the park. The karts were €8 for an hour, which was plenty of time to tire your legs out!
In the evenings the park was nice and quiet. There was sometimes live music in the bar area, but this was not very loud and finished quite early.
The bar only serves drinks and not food, but you can order food from the takeaway and eat it in the bar area. A word of warning: when the

We stayed here with Keycamp in early August. We arrived before the 3pm check in time, but when we spoke to main reception, they gave us a handy booklet and the code for the barrier and rang Keycamp for us to advise them that we had arrived. Luckily our mobile home was ready for us, so our holiday started nice and quickly.

The swimming pool complex was great although sometimes it was difficult to get sun beds, the camp site itself was very spacious - pitches were large and there was a lot of green areas for the children to play. There was also a football/basketball pitch in the middle of the campsite where teenagers would congregate and play nicely. There was a lovely family feel about the whole campsite.

Price wise, the takeaway didn't seem too bad and they did two different sizes of pizza. The shop was more than supermarkets but this is to be expected - we stayed elsewhere for our second week which had a Very expensive shop! Mind you, they do spoil you with the ice creams in the bar - lots of choice and reasonably priced - 1.5 euro for one scoop of ice cream, 2.5€ for two and 3.5€ for three.

If you are visiting the area the first weekend in August, then we recommend visiting Chinon on the Saturday as it's their medieval market which was really interesting. We happened upon it by chance and wish we had known about it as we would have got there earlier in the morning.

We stayed here for 7 days and had a great time. Good on site amenities, complete with pools and lots of things for kids to do.

All very clean the could do better, is that in some parts could do with some modernisation e.g. Toilet block.

Staff all very friendly and helpful. Also you can get discounts for partner site seeing tours

We stayed here for 11 nights as the schools broke up with our 12 and 8 year old girls. The site was easy to find. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The owner, Brigitte, was always around and loved chatting to everyone. The pitch was huge, as are many in France. We had paid for a premium pitch which had electricity, water, drainage, a shed with a fridge in it, table, chairs, sun loungers, parasol, bbq and free Wi-Fi for your whole stay. On the internet it said free internet for one hour a day, but I think that meant if you use the computers in reception. We were just given a card with a code on so we could hook up from the ipad. We thought we needed to book one of these pitches to get the water and drainage, but it turned out many people on standard pitches also had these facilities. I just don't think you can be 100% sure of getting this if you don't book a premium pitch. Anyway, for us it was worth the extra just to not have to lug tables, chairs etc. across France. Very lazy. There are many play areas dotted all over the site, so your kids are never far from you if they want to go and play. We used the takeaway on the first night and it was very nice. The bar had a lovely outdoor area with comfy sofas, and a covered area, but around the actual bar itself, inside, got very crowded as it is almost up against a wall. Only went there once anyway as it's cheaper to drink your own wine on your pitch, and we were close enough to the bar to hear the music. Entertainment was not every night, and was pretty low key. Irish two-man band on one night, who were very good. Another night there was a chap just playing an acoustic guitar, which was very relaxing to listen to, and one night there was a marching band, who stamped up and down the camp site, banging out well-known tunes. That lasted from about 7pm to 8pm, and was quite funny actually. There you are, cooking your barbecue, when 12 men march past, playing OMDs Enola Gay on trumpets. Different. There was a quiz one night a week but that was all indoors. Local vineyards also came to the site early evening so that you could taste their wine and buy if you wanted to.

The restaurant is just outside the gate of the site and was very very nice indeed. Went one night but wish we'd gone more. Did have a small kids menu too which they enjoyed.

The pools were great. The shallower one was very warm indeed. We all enjoyed the slides and as the weather was so hot during our whole stay we were in there every single day, even if only for an hours dip at 7pm after a day out. Very clean, plenty of sunbeds, although only saw a lifeguard on one or two occasions, so keep an eye on your kids yourself.

All the toilet, shower and washing-up facilities were spotless, modern, clean and well maintained. The showers are the usual push-button ones, but you can twist the push-button to alter the temperature. Often you can't alter it and our youngest finds them too hot, so this was really nice. Lots of children playing out in the evening and our two made lots of friends. Most were silent in in bed by 11pm, which suited us. Our 12 year old was one of the oldest children on the site, so if you have teenagers this may not be the site for you. There isn't much (if anything) that will keep older kids amused, and they may get bored.

Loads to do in the local area and we didn't manage to do it all, so will definitely have to come back one more time. Saumur had a lovely market and was a lovely town to look around. Angers is a bit of a drive, but was worth it to visit Terra Botanica (a bit like Eden Project) and the amazing castle in the town. Chinon was also a very beautiful town, and the Abbey at Fontevraud was a great day out.

One night we had a huge thunderstorm. The family in the caravan next to us went to the bar. I said "what, at 4am?" and they told me that the owner always opens the bar during a storm, no matter what the time, as some people camping get very nervous. This family have been coming here for 23 years, so they knew these little tips. I just thought it was a thoughtful thing to do, as I've never known this before. We, however, did not know this at the time, so just trembled in our bed !

As with other Castels sites this was not cheap, but you get what you pay for. Really lovely site and I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone.

Easy to get to from Caen, the campsite has lovely pitches and plenty of facilities. The swimming pool gets busy and there is no requirement to shower before use, and the only poolside shower doesn't work. So the water gets quite 'cloudy' as the day goes on. We had a great experience with the bike hire, go carts archery and pony riding (thanks to Fabrise). Our dog enjoyed the large field behind the site which used to be a pitch and putt golf course, and swimming in the ditches and ponds, to the disgust of the ducks! The downside was the lack of things to do in the immediate vicinity, and the restaurant on site 'A Grange' which we attempted to eat at but after waiting 40 minutes for our order to be taken, watching others arrive and have orders taken and drinks arrive, despite reminding them we were still waiting, we eventually left.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a couples holiday in a Eurocamp static caravan from 17th-24th June. Check in was simple, and the Eurocamp representative was lovely and there is a hut where you can borrow games, books, etc. This ended up being great for us as the weather was AWFUL. In fact, on the second day of our visit there was a thunderstorm ALL day and most of the grounds were flooded. You cant blame the campsite for the weather though, and when we could finally emerge they had laid out walkways over the new moats surrounding the caravans which was lovely of them. They did visit and ask if we wanted to move to another campsite, but we were fine and chose not to.

The caravan itself smelt strongly of cleaning fluid on arrival which did take a while to subside, but it was clean. The bedrooms are quite tight, but as we were a couple we could use the spare rooms for storage so this didnt bother us. If you packed one out though you may feel a bit cramped. Beds were comfy and quiet though, and the shower powerful and hot.

The grounds and local area are very pretty, there are roses everywhere, and it is very quiet apart from birdsong and crickets. The pool complex was small but nice, and we had sole use when we went so apart from the weather June is a good time to go to avoid crowds. One negative is that being so close to water though there is a LOT of mosquitoes, so bring repellant.

We used the shop a fair bit, but we also visited the intermarche in Saumur. You can get your basics there, but there's not a huge choice. The milk and butter is amazing though! Similar price to the UK for most things there.

We had a pizza one night from the takeaway, that was quite nice. We tried the restaurant on the first night though and wasnt impressed. Very limited stuff left for us to order, so we both ended up choosing something we didnt fancy. My partner's lamb was overcooked and my steak was very over salted. I'm a foodie so was disappointed as you expect amazing food in France, but we had a better expereince eating in Saumur later on in the week. The wine was nice though, we opted for the local stuff and we found we really liked the region's wines.

We found that with a car, this is perfectly situated to get out and explore. You can drive into Saumur in 5 minutes, or you can get on the main road that goes between Angers and Tours.

Overall we really liked this place, especially as we ended up enjoying ourselves there despite the appaling weather. I would reccommend staying here, although personally I would avoid the restaurant and eat in Saumur.
