“Excellent site all round”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 10, 2013

As a couple and with friends, we have visited this site for several years, either with a caravan or the last 4 years with a motor home, and it was with our motorhome (7.9m) that we visited the site in June 2012, The pitches are large and will accommodate any large motor home or caravan, leaving plenty of room for awnings, towing or towed car and ample room to place out your table and chairs, There is a variety of sunny, part shade or full or shade pitches.
There is a large well stocked shop, welcoming bar and good area for snacks. Outside the main gate there is a new restaurant with a variety of menus to suit all tastes at reasonable prices.
The pool area is large and never feels crowded even when busy, and there is a separate water chute. For anyone interested in doing a bit of fishing whilst on holiday there is an on site pond.
A short drive or bike ride takes you into Saumur, well worth a visit.
On arrival at the site you receive a warm welcome from the owner Brigitte and her team, and together they ensure you have a pleasant stay.

Firstly, please be aware the campsite has changed its name to Domaine de la Breche - and now has 5 stars! It is a site for everyone, even the family dog (but teenagers may be a little bored with the night life as activities do not revolve around them - and I say that with 2 teenagers, but they love the site!) It is an excellent place to stay, whether using your own equipment, renting one of their mobile homes or staying with Keycamp/Eurocamp! The facilities are spotless and the service is excellent. The reception staff speak fluent English and are very helpful. They will help with any problems you may have (including but not limited to bee sting ointment!) and can advise on places to visit (and have discounts for some of them) and cycling and walking routes around the area. Beware that some of the bar/shop staff (who are students working in the holidays) may not speak much English at the start of the season - but are pretty fluent by the end!

It is very flat and safe site. The restaurant is new (and excellent). The campsite organises things in the high season - but these are things like quizzes, wine tasting and a market, not discos! The activity centre of the site is the bar/reception/games room area - although patrons can get noisy (never me, you understand!), it is far enough away so it does not bother even the closest campers! The bar is well stocked and reasonably priced, the shop limited but sells the essentials - and fresh bread & croissants every morning. You have to remember that it is in the countryside so you get wildlife - beware the ducks from the pond as they do like to be fed bread! The pitches are very large so you can park your car, have the sunloungers out and still have room to play boules. There are also plenty of play areas for youngsters with climbing frames and so on. Most of the pitches have shade to a greater or lesser degree.Oh, and the maximum distance from bar complex to the furthest pitches is about 0.5km.

The swimming pool complex is excellent (and being improved for the 2013 season because the present complex gets very crowded in high season, especially when it is hot). There is a BMX track, Swin Golf (golf with large plastic balls), crazy golf, bike & go-cart hire - oh, and do not forget the horses! You can go for a lesson or a trek around the site (but they are done in groups, not on a 1-to-1 basis). The games room has arcade games, air hockey and bar football.

The site also has full internet coverage - it is free in the bar area, but you can "buy" codes so you can use it at your pitch - very useful for teenagers in the evenings when they do not want to go to the bar with parents (or they want to join you at the bar, only because you can buy them drinks while they are chatting to their friends back home!). There is a TV in the bar complex (but in one small area so you do not have to watch - or even listen!), where they show major international sports events - like Formula 1, the Olympics or some games where men enjoy kicking round or odd shaped balls! Warning - these are often in French, so the internet can come in handy for adults too!

If you are looking for a 'lively and energetic party site', this may not be the one for you but if you want a holiday where you can do as much or as little as you want, go to bed early or have a barbecue with old/new friends until 2am, be sociable or spend time alone, visit chateaux or relax by the pool, this is the site for you.

lovely site , each year we go back we love it more, very relaxed and home from home perfect for a quick week away as not too far to drive. We have booked again for 2013 our 6th year in a row for may half term. We book direct in a mobile home which generally set the furthest away from amenities. The camping pitches although we never use appear huge and most are in lovely positions ( I would ask to be away from basketball court in high seasons as it gets busy) . Someone wrote a review that rules are not endorsed here, I totally disagree , Brigitte and her team may not be policing the site at all times (who wants that) but they are aware of what goes on and do enforce the silence rules and discipline people that overstep the rules. It is a very family park our children were about 5 and 3 when we first came here and arenow 11 and 9 and still love it. Highly recommend this site - or a best kept secret

We have stayed here 3 times since 1999 as a couple and a family as independent campers and with Eurocamp. It is a pretty well tended site. There is plenty to do with a well stocked reasonably priced shop as well as the new restaurant and the old bar.THe pool was busy this time ,maybe time to invest in a new one?The pitches are big and well marked out. There is a pleasant atmosphere especially in the evenings. Is now called 'Domaine de la breche'.

This is a lovely site very close to Saumer and easy to get to other Chateaux in the Loire. It is a big campsite for tents and people coming in caravans. We were there first week in September and it is closed just after that. You do need a car. Key camp directions were the wrong way round but we found it ok. The staff were great very helpful.
The site is well kept with lots of flowers and seating around the pool, which is quite small for such a big place. There was no noise when we were there although you can hear the trains.
We would go again because it is a good site and there is such a lot to see in the area. I would not like to go during August as I am sure it is packed.

We rented a 3 bed mobile with deck, BBQ, etc, for a family of four. It is billed as a 5 star site, and given some of the facilities I think that is how it got the rating. However, I think it is more of a very good 4 star campsite. It is true that the arrangement of some of the tent pitches may leave a lot to be desired, but the space for the mobiles is very good and there are acres of greenspace for playing in.

The kids met others their own age and enjoyed the pool and playground. They did some horse riding, but that is extra (too 'extra' for any regularity). Other extras include the WiFi (free in the bar though), which could only be bought for only one device at a time. The shop is well stocked.

Regarding Stepford camping, yes it is for those BBQ'ing, shorts-wearing, mid-agers, but what else would you expect? The only two incongruities I saw was a guy going down to the shop every morning in his PJs, and a couple in a tent driving a TVR.

Again, as stated in my other review, France and camping have gotten expensive and are not returning value for money. Time to move on.

We rented a caravan on a small euro camp site. True, but it was attached to a massive campsite which euro camp forgot to mention! The site was clean and safe but unless you are a cycle loving, walking shoe wearing, Center Parcs loving, barbequer who owns a pair of trousers which cleverly zip off at the knee then I'd give it a miss. The directions sent to us from euro camp were a NIGHTMARE. Useless map, pointless written directions and a non existent postcode to tap into your tomtom! The is a nice pool if you can squeeze in, a nice bar with free wi-fi and mardy staff, some nice routes off site if you are a runner/walker/cyclist and nearby Saumur is picturesque. There is a fishing lake on site which seemed popular and free and a take away pizza place. Not for me but everyone else seemed to like it!
