“A special campsite.”
Reviewed October 15, 2012

We have stayed here 3 times since 1999 as a couple and a family as independent campers and with Eurocamp. It is a pretty well tended site. There is plenty to do with a well stocked reasonably priced shop as well as the new restaurant and the old bar.THe pool was busy this time ,maybe time to invest in a new one?The pitches are big and well marked out. There is a pleasant atmosphere especially in the evenings. Is now called 'Domaine de la breche'.

This is a lovely site very close to Saumer and easy to get to other Chateaux in the Loire. It is a big campsite for tents and people coming in caravans. We were there first week in September and it is closed just after that. You do need a car. Key camp directions were the wrong way round but we found it ok. The staff were great very helpful.
The site is well kept with lots of flowers and seating around the pool, which is quite small for such a big place. There was no noise when we were there although you can hear the trains.
We would go again because it is a good site and there is such a lot to see in the area. I would not like to go during August as I am sure it is packed.

We rented a 3 bed mobile with deck, BBQ, etc, for a family of four. It is billed as a 5 star site, and given some of the facilities I think that is how it got the rating. However, I think it is more of a very good 4 star campsite. It is true that the arrangement of some of the tent pitches may leave a lot to be desired, but the space for the mobiles is very good and there are acres of greenspace for playing in.

The kids met others their own age and enjoyed the pool and playground. They did some horse riding, but that is extra (too 'extra' for any regularity). Other extras include the WiFi (free in the bar though), which could only be bought for only one device at a time. The shop is well stocked.

Regarding Stepford camping, yes it is for those BBQ'ing, shorts-wearing, mid-agers, but what else would you expect? The only two incongruities I saw was a guy going down to the shop every morning in his PJs, and a couple in a tent driving a TVR.

Again, as stated in my other review, France and camping have gotten expensive and are not returning value for money. Time to move on.

We rented a caravan on a small euro camp site. True, but it was attached to a massive campsite which euro camp forgot to mention! The site was clean and safe but unless you are a cycle loving, walking shoe wearing, Center Parcs loving, barbequer who owns a pair of trousers which cleverly zip off at the knee then I'd give it a miss. The directions sent to us from euro camp were a NIGHTMARE. Useless map, pointless written directions and a non existent postcode to tap into your tomtom! The is a nice pool if you can squeeze in, a nice bar with free wi-fi and mardy staff, some nice routes off site if you are a runner/walker/cyclist and nearby Saumur is picturesque. There is a fishing lake on site which seemed popular and free and a take away pizza place. Not for me but everyone else seemed to like it!

We stayed here in August 2012 with Eurocamp, we took our 2 year old daughter and my mother in law with us in our caravan and my parents and 11 year old niece had a separate caravan. The pitches on this site are some of the best I have seen (and I have been going to France for around many years, as well as having worked for Eurocamp in my younger days!) This site is so lovely, really well kept and perfect for toddlers with the pool and pond/lake both being fenced off with security gates. The bar/shop area is nice and relaxed and yes the service can sometimes be slow due to staffing issues but this was never a major problem. Food in the restaurant in good with several set price menus too choose from (again the service can be slow). The bouncy castle is a lovely touch, very popular with my daughter!! I have read some past comment about noise at night but I have to say during the 10 nights we were there we never experienced any noise after 11am which is the cut off time stated by the site. I am definitely considering this site again for our holiday next year. Definitely recommend it!!!

Very pleasant site with much to keep an eight and five year old happy across our 10-night stay. Very large pitches, decent pool complex and a nice patio area outside the bar. Takeaway was ok but we didn't try the site-owned restaurant outside the entrance gates.
Staff were brilliant throughout, very friendly and always looking to help. We arrived late and a couple of the guys there went out of their way to solve a problem for us. Greatly appreciated.
Shop was ok for basics, supermarket was about 10-15 minutes away by car.
Town of Saumur is pretty and we found a few things to do in the immediate region. Nothing particularly brilliant though, particularly if you've decided that walking around a chateau won't quite cut it with the kids.
Overall though, I would recommend it for families with younger children happy to relax on site and, as I said, a lot of credit should go to the excellent owners/staff.

Stayed here 2008 and 2012 with Keycamp in a mobile, with our boys (16 and 14). Very well laid out over an extensive site, and is well run. Most staff speak good English. Bar prices are ok, but service can be slow as they also cover the ice cream section which is busy from 17:00 for a couple of hours. Any wine from the fridge is bearly chilled, which is a disappointment. Now has a restaurant just upside the gates: this is not great, is not awful, is over priced with a limited menu (ie €4 for 'Apple in Mint Water' - this literally is a small peeled apple in a shallow bowl of mint flavoured water. €4!) Shop is well stocked, open 07:00-20:00, sells yesterday's UK newspapers. Kids seem to love the pools and the water slides. Doing a 'German' with the deck chairs is not tolerated. There is a multi-sports area. Since 2008 this has been fenced off and is locked at 20:00. In 2008 this was the focal point for many kids of all ages. They wouldorganise their own football games and play until it was too dark. During our stay in August 2012, it was hardly used by any kids. The fence seems to have had the effect of killing the kids spontaneity witnessed in 2008, and it is no longer a focal point for them. This is a real shame, as it was the primary reason we returned.
