“Loved it!”

A really beautiful resort snuggled amongst the luscious rainforest. Close enough to the main attractions like Sepilok so as to not be inconvenient, but also far enough away for some peace in a beautiful location. The staff were wonderful and knowledgeable in helping to arrange trips. I really enjoyed my few days there and would recommend to anyone travelling through Sabah.

We recently spent two nights here. We wanted to book into a villa, but, unfortunately they were all booked up and we had to stay in a dorm.

The dorm itself was comfortable. However, only the two of us were in it. I think if it was full it would get quite hot as there is no air con. You also get bitten quite a lot so I would bring a mosquito net if you can. I would recommend the individual villas more, however, the dorms are very well priced so if you are on a budget then its a good choice.

The communal areas were great, with amazing views and the food was well priced and delicious (though portions a little small, we often ate three meals between the two of us).

It is a little further away from the centre with the orang-utans etc but there is a free shuttle there.

A great tropical jungle retreat!

We spent 4 nights here. The Malaysian "chalet" (or what I would refer to as a "bush hut") is basic and no frills, but very comfortable. It had the essentials (aircon and hot water) and was set on the edge of hill over a valley. The view and bird watching was very good. This place seems to support a healthy, back to nature experience. They have a tv room next to the dining room, but at the time of our stay the tv was broken so our son had to read and watch the birds, squirrels and try to spot elusive snakes. The staff are very friendly helping to arrange day trips for us to Kinabatangan River and a tour of Sandakan town. They have a daily shuttle to the Orang Utan Sanctuary, Sun Bear Sanctuary, the Rainforest Discovery Centre The food was very nice and they make the best burger that we have had in our 2 years in South East Asia!
Paganakan Dii is on the grounds of a park with some animals (fish, deer and 5 algae covered crocs).

This is like a 5* boutique hotel in terms of the accommodation. We had a double bed and bunk bed in our room with just the two of us. Mosquito net was provided, and you will need it up here. The room has an outdoor bathroom and the doors slide open so you can be part of the surroundings if you want.
There are cool hammocks and swing chairs to relax in and a large decked area with a view over the jungle. The place is teeming with wildlife, butterflies, animals swinging in the trees, birds and even saw a stick insect!
There are free trips to the orangutan sanctuary in the minibus.
The food is ok, not the best but everything else makes up for it.

Went to stay a night and loved it. View from the chalet was amazing. It's a rustic place where you can get back to nature. Good to spend a night here if you plan to visit the oranutans and proboscis monkeys

I stayed in the dorm and simply loved it! Beautiful atmosphere and hands down the best dorm I have stayed so far. The hammocks outside the dorm are great to relax and the even have a sundeck with rainforest views. The really offer many goodies you would not expect for that money. Also, great service and good food. Highly recommended place when staying in Sepilok!

Loved it! Beautiful view from the balcony over some dipterocarp forest with many species of birds singing and flying around....in the evening a flock of some 200 white egrets fly past the balcony to their roost site.
The wooden chalets are rustic and gorgeous, with a fun outdoor bathroom (complete with view to forest), with all the luxuries you might want (including air-con). Fun having the geckos calling in the night too - they probably kept the bugs under control as didn't find any in the chalet (no mosquitoes too).
All the buildings have the same wooden feel; the bird watchtower thing was cool, as is the restaurant area, where you can watch small birds playing in the trees nearby. Location is good if you have transport as it's very close to Sepilok (Orangutans, Sunbears and Rainforest Discovery Centre), and they provide transport to and from here.
I really want to go back just to spend a few days relaxing. Staff are really friendly, and the owners are lovely people too. Found out the chalets were made from "rescued" material, and after chatting with the owners I can say it is a genuinely environmentally responsible place to visit.

Room Tip: Ask for one overlooking the jungle
