I spent a couple of days at Paganakan Dii and have to say this place could be great, but ends up being average because of lack of management (Didnt see any manager or owner during my stay).
As I arrived, I was asked for my passport, and nothing else, so had to ask where was my room !
Went to the room, no towel. I asked one of the maids and was told...i could get one from reception.
I wanted to leave my valuables at reception, i had to insist because the initial answer was 'you can keep'.
At that time checked in another client who complainef about calling 3 times by phone without an answer.
Then I went for lunch, asked if the fish was fresh and was told...you will see !
Then the room wss not cleaned the next day.
For breakfast, I asked for 2 eggs, and the lady came up after 10mn with just 1 egg saying 1 extra egg was 1 ringit (so i had to wait for the 2nd egg again).
And the dishes are very small so had to ask for a burguer after finishing my dish of the day which had exactly 3 chunks of chicken, not 1 more.
And no help with luggage is provided.

So the 3 stars go to the nice bungalows (although you listen to the conversation of your neighbour as if you were in their rooms), but the place could me much improve with an owner making sure tge staff provides adequate service.

Paganakan Dii has the look and feel of a place which would normally be out of the budget range of the ordinary backpacker, but at 35RM for an excellent dorm room, you get to stay in an incredible rainforest retreat for the same price as any of the tackier hostels down the road. Everything here is ecofriendly, with design which complements nature rather than dominates it, you can enjoy views out over the rainforest from the sundeck, and wake up in the morning to the sounds of the jungle from your balcony. The food in Paganakan Dii's cafe is excellent and reasonably priced, and they offer a free pickup from the main intersection (for buses coming from/going to Sandakan) as well as transfers to the intersection and the Sepilok Orang Utan sanctuary 3 times a day. They can also organise onward bus transfers and reserve your seats for you free of charge.

One of the highlights of my trip to Borneo, dont even contemplate staying anywhere else in Sepilok!

Room Tip: If your dorm room is full of noisy fellow guests, check out the other 2 dorm longhouses alongside yours (there are no locks on the doors so you can walk right in) we ended up sneaking into an unoccupied one and sleeping there undisturbed, making sure to leave no traces the next day, making our dorm room into a private one!

Amazing little hideaway in the rain forest. I stayed in the dorm which was so comfy, spacious and great beds. The location is great, you ate 5 mins to the orangutans and there is a free shuttle there. The food is good but really small portions. Staff friendly. I've been travelling for 11 months and it's the nicest place I've stayed, highly recommend.

It is the best choice for nature lovers. Just imagine that staying in a wooden room & taking shower in the forest! Such an amazing experience! No TV, no clock! Just purely enjoy the holiday with nature, woke up by the birds in the morning.
There are 3 trips of free shuttle bus everyday to Orang Utan sanctuary and Rain forest. Before enter the hotel, there is a garden with few kind of animals... its like a little zoo. We had a morning walk there after enjoy the amazing sunrise at 530am.

Room Tip: A1 is the room with the best view!

The setting is great, the place presents quite good value for money and the staff are very accommodating.

However, the owner has serious tourist fatigue or is just generally unkind. I'll never know which because I won't be back.
