“Eclectic and charming”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2013

We recently enjoyed a return visit to Rollestone Manor, for no other reason than we enjoyed it so much the first time. It is very unusual to find a small, independent B&B with dining, and although not perfect, they generally do everything very well. There is an air of faded former grandeur about the place, with an eclectic mix of old and new furnishings, but this is definitely part of the charm, and such a refreshing change from corporate chain hotels. It might be small, but they are still able to provide pre-dinner drinks and menu selection in the bar, and then produce some extremely nice food. We'll definitely be returning for another stay.

Room Tip: Have stayed in The Cardigan Room and Sir Nathaniel's - both were splendid!

Had a very comfortable night in this lovely, privately owned country house. Well run and comfortable, delicious food and very well looked after, 'The Manor' is outstanding value for money and a very good base for Stonehenge and Salisbury Plain. Highly recommended.

This is a lovely place to stay. We only stayed one night but wished it could have been more. We had a lovely room, spacious and light , with great views. The bed was big and comfy, and there was a good supply of tea, coffee and biscuits. Great shower! Breakfast was really good, and we also had an evening meal, which was excellent, and it was nice to have coffee and a drink in the cosy bar. Overall this is a very welcoming place, where you feel well cared for.

Room Tip: We had the Sir Nathaniel room, which is superb.

Rollestone Manor is a 950 year old house in lovely rural Wiltshire farmland. It is full of history if you are interested, with a short history of the property in every room, from the Doomsday Book right up to today. Each bedroom is named after one of the characters that featured in the history of the place. We stayed in "Lady Harriet" which was an excellent quality room - superbly clean, very comfortable and featuring all modern amenities, including free Wifi, iPod/iPad dock and DVD player (in every room). The bathroom was luxurious and very modern. Bed linen was crisp and the bed lovely and firm. We slept soundly to be sure.
The food was absolutely sublime. We booked a table at the evening meal restaurant. Both my wife and I enjoyed every mouthful, from starter to the desert. Perfectly cooked and full of flavour, whether it was sausage and (pesto) mash, or the fabulous pheasant breast. There is even a option to choose "minis" for desert, meaning you get a taste of five different desert options if you can't decide which one you want! There is a very well stocked bar with a very wide range of wine and spirits - it was very hard to choose a whiskey for a nightcap!
Perhaps the very best thing about the Manor was the Portiers - the family who run the business. They were very welcoming, as you might expect, but we were overwhelmed by how much they bent over backwards and went way beyond what you might expect from people who work all day everyday running B & B. For example, we had some chicken in a vacuum pack and we asked to pop it in a fridge overnight. Mr Portier then offered to make sandwiches for us - even offering gluten free bread which I have to eat! We hadn't sent any dietary requirements, yet they had everything a lactose / gluten intolerant person needs to eat! The sandwiches were perfectly made and included colslaw and tomato - and they didn't charge a penny! We enjoyed munching the outside Salisbury Cathedral later that day.
Rollestone Manor is perfectly sited for exploring Wiltshire - less than 10 miles from Salisbury and literally up the road from Stonehedge. Being so close to North/South and East/West arterial roads you can set off in any direction and get to where you want to go very quickly.
Highly recommended - 6 out of 5!!!

Stayed there for just one night following a couple of nights in a Hilton. There is simply no comparison. Rollestone Manor is a 950 year old manor house situated on the edge of a small village close to Stonehenge. The hosts are welcoming, friendly but not intrusive. There are 7 individually styled bedrooms, we had the Lady Harriet, which is in the oldest part of the house, complete with short, wide doors and a sloping (but perfectly safe) floor, sash windows, open fire place but with a modern practical bathroom! The food was excellent, well cooked and well presented. We will not bother with the Hilton next time we are in this location but will certainly be returning to Rollestone Manor. Thanks for a great stay.

Room Tip: If you have mobility problems choose the ground floor room, otherwise they all looked delightful

Me and my family stayed here one night and loved every minute of it! The rooms were lovely and the beds so comfy! The staff were friendly and not too persistent and over friendly like you can find, the lounge area was cosy at night when we went for a drink and the breakfast was delicious! As I got a place at the uni down there, my family will deffo be returning
