“Tradional & Good”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

This traditional restaurant in the mountains is a must in the region. Their speciality is the leg of lamb slowly roasted on an open fire. The jamon iberico is very good and quite cheap…for jamon iberico.

Like many Spanish traditional restaurants, the decoration is not very nice and very rustic, but the food is delicious.

“Great value for money.”
Reviewed June 13, 2013

El Riu is a great restaurant on the way to Guadalest which only opens for lunch and is closed on Saturdays. You need to make a reservation on Sundays. (local number 965 88 05 07)The food is very fresh and barbecued as you order it. Everything is very tasty and inexpensive, including the wine. The deserts are also freshly made daily and are gorgeous. Staff are very friendly and most speak good English.
The shop nearby is worth a visit with lots of local produce including the wine that they sell in 5 litre containers at 9.8 euros for 5 litres which is really worth a try if you are staying in Spain for a few days.

“A motorcycle museum and a fantastic restaurant , can it get any better?”
Reviewed May 29, 2013

In Javea for a week, bikes at home :( Read the reviews and set off to find the place. Review with directions was a great help, thanks. Museum was a real find, spent an hour while my wife and my mother looked through the shop full of local produce and then sat in the sun. The set menu for 13 euros was superb. Bread, alioli, tomato onion and anchovy salsa. A real good house white. Garlic soup was stunning ( stunned several passers-by in Guadalest later that afternoon too) , grilled aubergines. Then came quail, pork chops, garlic chicken and excellent chips. needed a doggy bag.
Dessert was local curd, honey and walnuts, fruit salad and creamy rice pudding. 2 coffees and a tea. complimentary moscatels with the bill . 44 euros including tip Bargain :0)

“Fantastic value for a top rated barbecue!”
Reviewed May 13, 2013 via mobile

I think it is not possible to find a better value restaurant in almost anywhere in the EU.

Located in the middle of nowhere, on a windy road about 5 kilometres from even from the smallest village. The restaurant offers the freshest barbecue meats and soups at ridiculous low prices in massive volumes.

If the restaurant were located anywhere near to a
tourist location, they would be the busiest and most successful restaurant possible!

Well worth the effort of driving to a difficult location.

“friendly spanish grill”
Reviewed May 12, 2013

We had left early for Guadalest and stopped here for a good cup of coffee. There is a motorbike museum (which we didn't visit), a pleasant roadside stall selling olive oils, honey sweets, traditional soaps and crafts (worth browsing through) and the restaurant "El Riu". where we had our coffee. All are neat buildings with shady parking under mulberry trees and a pleasant view of the river and valley. We saw them starting up a fire in the giant hearth outside - obviously for the barbecue lunch.

After having seen Guadalest we decided "El Riu" would be better than the touristy eateries so back we went.

Good decision! The friendly young gent served us delicious meals with charm. My favourite was the garlic soup but the grilled meats and spanish sausages were excellent too. If you want fish drive on to the sea. Here they serve tender, juicy spanish meats cooked over an outdoor fire. Enjoy! (and give the old, small doggy a slow, gentle scratch behind her ears)
