Bongjeongsagil 200 Guesthouse
Ranked #10 of 86 Andong B&B and Inns
Reviewed March 26, 2012

Staying at Bongjeongsagil 200 was more like being with family than just a guesthouse. The owners welcomed us into their home, fed us interesting foods and even more interesting teas. The owners speak no English, so you really need a grasp of Korean to stay here comfortably.

The lady owner is a tea master, with all manner of different teas from Korea, China and elsewhere. We spent our evenings in Andong being like this, it was a really relaxing way to be.

Our room itself was a separate building to the main house, and was in the traditional Korean style (no bed!). Even though it was many degrees below freezing we were really cozy in the room, and the shower was powerful and very warm.

Andong downtown is about a 30 minute (if I remember correctly) bus ride away, so it's not ideally situated for that. However, Bongjung Temple is just a short walk uphill, and is worth a visit.

Overally, staying here was a really special experience!

Room Tip: Ask for the room outside of the main house.

I accidently found this guesthouse but it was more like a B&B.. I think. The owner was a tea master and she also made her own tea at her house. She also made soy sauce and Doenjang (traditional Korean fermented soybean paste), which is rarely to find the homemade in Korea these days. She has learned how to cook a traditional temple food in Korea (all vegetarian) and everything was too delicious so it was hard for me to get adjusted to food outside.

Everything was so exquisite such as a silk blanket, never-eding tea serving, food, soil house, and their genuine kindness. It was a great place to experience the real Korean spirit from Andong. I asked A LOT of questions about confucianism in Korea and she was answering all my questions thoroughly. But the only problem is none of family members doesn't speak English so you have to be aware of it if you are a foreigner.

And also location.. It was right next to Bongjung Temple, which has the oldest wooden temple in Korea but kinda far from the downtown or hahoe village. But there is a bus going from Bongjung Temple so I didn't have any trouble about it. B&B owner told me I should visit the Bongjung Temple at 5:30 AM so I did. :P And I really really liked it alot!! No one was at the temple (all the monks were meditating so the main building was empty) I was sitting in the oldest wooden temple in Korea and the air was so fresh and serene. I think it would be really hard to experience this if you stay in downtown. So if you want a serene place to stay and experience a temple culture, I think this place is perfect.

I found their house at naver.com, which is a Korean google. They only have a blog (--------) and a phone number (---------) but they don't speak English AT ALL.

Room Tip: The first picture below is the soil house that we were able to sleep in. I think they charge more mo...
