the salt mine was suggested by our hotel in Cluj who also encouraged us to travel independently on public transport (the mini bus only costs £1.50 each way!). It was worth the trip - a long walk down a tunnel into the mountain takes you past several galleries then down a flight of stairs to the main hall. It is a huge - a viewing gallery all around gives a great panoramic view. Take the lift (to avoid 13 flights of stairs) into the hall where rather strangely a number of amusements await at nominal cost. We opted for bowling and the boat hire in the salt lake ... all hundreds of feet below the earth's surface! Very different.
