“Orient Bay is a Spectacular St. Maarten Location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2014

On the eastern side of the island is Oyster Bay. The northern side of the bay is French and the south is Dutch. There are many restaurants and attractions on both sides, most notably the Westin, Dawn Beach Club and the Oyster Bay Resort. Dawn Beach is a beautiful stretch of sand on both sides of a rock outcropping. If you want to transverse from one side to the other you will need reef or tennis shoes. You can charter a sail boat at the marina, and the ferry to St. Barth's leaves from here as well.

my husband like the sights you and get a chair and drink for $7.00 for the day that is a bargain. The beach is peaceful and the water is beautiful, nice to walk the entire beach

“We didn't bother going to any other beaches!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 7, 2014

We stayed at La Plantation in Orient Bay, and did not bother going to any other beaches. The view was wonderful, the beach is long (perfect for walking), and there is so much to do if you want. We went in July, so I imagine that it is much more popular in high season, but we didn't consider the beach to be crowded.

Beware that the beach is topless, and we mostly found that this was older women. In addition, the southern end of the beach is clothing optional. We stayed on the main beach and sat at one of the beach bars each day. The food was great, but a little pricey in my opinion. However, considering that you got served on the beach, I was not complaining. You can always bring your own food!

There were plenty of vendors walking up and down the beach, but they were very polite, even when we decided to look and not purchase. It is worth bringing some cash, as I found that their wares were often priced the same or cheaper than the stores we visited. Plus, the experience of shopping from your beach chair can't be beat.

Overall, we had a great experience, and plan to be back again next year!

“Awesome beach !”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 6, 2014

My husband and I just finished our honeymoon in Orient Bay, St Martin. After reading the reviews we were very surprised to find out Orient Bay Beach is NOT as crowded and party-crazy like everyone says it is. I could see how one end of the beach is described as that, where all the bars are smooshed together, but it was hardly crowded at all while we were there. Orient Bay is a large port area for cruises, but on the days (over half of our trip) when there are no cruises on the island, the beach was almost deserted ! The beach can be walked up and down in about 20 minutes or so, and the water is a BLAST to swim in due to rougher waters and huge waves !! (Though the water is calmer on one side of the beach, over towards the nudist beach area) There are several water sports available and I highly recommend staying in Orient Bay due to how little people there were on non cruise days ! Also, beware, as I didn't realize this before, all of the beach bars start closing at like 4 pm ! Makes it hard to get food if you are someone who eats a late lunch like us !!

“Nice Beach”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 6, 2014

We were there for one day. Did not get a chance to see the other beaches of St. Martin but this one was one of the nieces beaches I've been on (clean and people were friendly). I will go back next time to the island. Maybe try the right side out next time! (nude area) :)
