We visited Orient Bay beach and had a great time. The beach is long with wonderful soft white sand and the water is clear and warm. It's a bit rougher than some of the beaches on the Dutch side, but my kids preferred that. Rented two chairs and an umbrella for $15 and brought our own drinks and snacks with no hassle. But plenty of restaurants as well. There are peddlers, but we noticed that if you got in the "second row" of beach chairs they were a little less active, preferring to walk closer to the water. To some they're annoying, but we found them far less aggressive than in other places, like Mexico. Took a ride on a banana boat with my two teenage kids - what a hoot. No ships were in that day but it was still pretty busy. Highly recommend a visit to Orient Bay Beach

Third trip to SXM and we always stay somewhere on OB. For us this is the best beach for walking, swimming, and meeting the nicest people. We do avoid it though when there are more than 2cruise ships in port. The color of the water is aqua, the sand is not too coarse or fine, we love the beach bars, and the people watching. I have to laugh at the 24 reviews that say this beach is terrible. They complain about being herded, which leads me to believe they are coming off a huge cruise ship with a time limit in port or on their tour. The more people, the more touristy the beach seems. Also this makes the beach more crowded, attracting more vendors, who are wanting to sell you something. Also since the southern end is clothing optional, many come out of curiosity to see what people look like without clothes on and then complain, because there were older people and heavier people nude, yet there is a huge sign if you want to avoid seeing nudity. If you do want to cross over and try being nude, the atmosphere is serene and nonjudgemental. Be aware that it is mostly an older crowd that can afford Club Orient. The rest of the beach has water sports, restaurants, and bars, and while not inexpensive, the prices are in line for the French side and on the beach. They get their asking price and hoards of tourists, so why lower your prices? Remember, this is the french side, so the business owners get taxed more heavily and the cost gets filtered down.
Can't wait to return to my home away from home.

This beach is incredibly beautiful with lots and lots of amenities (shopping, bars, restaurants, sports). However, it gets very crowded on cruise ship days. On those days, visit the less crowded beaches like Happy Beach, LeGalion or Friar's Bay - all within a 10-15 drive.

Lots of stalls for clothes etc, lots of food choices and plenty parking. You can go para-sailing, jet-skiing, a quick trip on a catamaran. We ate lunch at the Aloha and the food was amazing! Sea is a little rougher on the french side here at this beach. At the very end is the clothes optional beach no cameras allowed.
