“Great location on Orient Beach!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 24, 2013

I loved the L'Host hotel where I stayed on a recent trip to St. Martin. The property has a perfect location in the middle of Orient Beach. The rooms are spacious and offer everything you would need including a small fridge and a microwave. The property is close to all the activities and restaurants on Orient Beach. A great continental breakfast is included at La Playa and this includes fruit, cereal and great breakfast breads and yogurt. What a great way to wake up in the morning! Chairs and beach umbrellas are provided for guests at La Playa during the day. The staff was very friendly and helpful. L'Host offers a great value in a super location!

the swimming pool is not too big but just what you need after a day on the Orient Bay fantastic beach just 30sec by walk.

Furthermore and I really wand to insist on it: all the team is very helpfull, smiling, pleasent, etc

For a good and simple moment.

My family has stayed at L'Hoste Hotel each Spring for four years running. While it is not a luxury hotel--it's in a lovely location and has a charm that keeps you from wanting to stay anywhere else. Orient Beach is a busy, beautiful, long, soft sandy beach that is perfect for walking and swimming--filled with couples and families.
An included continental breakfast is served at a delightful beachfront restaurant, and includes croissants, bageutte, yogurt, fresh fruit, coffee, tea, etc., For an added cost--you may order eggs, bacon or sausage.
Over the years, the rooms and their kitchenettes, and the backyard grounds had really begun to suffer. But theses shortcomings are being turned around.
The beach, room and grounds staff are all good--Didi, especially is a wonderful bar tender at the beach bar. But the biggest improvement comes from the new owners' new manager--Katy. She is attentive, kind, charming, helpful and extremely patient with all the concierge kind of help that guests seek--all day long. She is fantastic asset to the hotel.
With the present trajectory, we will always come back.

Room Tip: We have always preferred the rooms on the second floor.

This hotel is steps from Orient Bay La Playa on the ocean side of the Bay...it doesn't get much better than this! This side of the island has incredible body surfing waves, comfortable water temperatures and a gentle breeze to counteract the searing Caribbean sun. What I liked about this hotel was the very friendly staff, the abundance of French visitors staying at the hotel, and the abundance of beach chairs and umbrellas. Unlike some places where you have to rush out to reserve your spot on the beach, this hotel has not skimped on beach furniture. This hotel is under new management and hopefully will get a make-over as everything is a little "tired-looking". Our room was large and comfortable but needed to be spruced up with more substantial drawer space, new curtains, and a tile scrubbing. Also, no WIFI in the hotel rooms...only at reception. There is a large comfortable swimming pool, great beachside restaurant, and a very substantial continental breakfast included with the room tariff. The hotel is located within "Parc Orient Bay" with a security gate attendant. At present there is a contest going on for new name suggestions as the hotel is interested in a rebranding. Forgot to mention that through the back parking lot, literally steps away, is Orient Bay village square with fantastic restaurants steps away from your hotel room. On discovery, we were shocked at how convenient this hotel is located. In the village square there is even an outdoor restaurant that serves delicious sushi!

Room Tip: great AC wireless controlled units in each room.

This is a good place to stay while visiting Orient beach. Clean, safe and well taken care of. You have a little kitchenette with fridge and stove. Get a car rental from the airport, the drive in St. Martin is slow, safe and friendly. Truly the friendly island. Take the drive to the hotel in either direction, they both go near the hotel which is in a gated community. Pay the extra and get an upper room for the view and hearing the palms swing in the wind. The beach is right there. Close walking distance to good restaurants, the pizza place and variety store. Try and visit a local church on Sunday morning and be most welcome.
Breakfast is included everyday by the pool or take it to your room.
It is all right there. There is no gambling on the French side so take your car in the evening to the Princess casino on the dutch side at night for a great evening of entertainment.
Driving around the island at 2:00 am is very safe and hear the tree frogs sing to you.
Paradise......

Room Tip: junior suite is the best.

Sorry for the late post. I was in St. Maarten over Christmas and stayed at L’Hoste. I have stayed at other hotels on Orient beach and it is the best location with the best price. I’ve paid as much as $400.00 $500.00 per night during the Christmas season at other hotels and the rooms are very similar.

The front desk staff have always been very nice to deal with, especially, a tall black woman, who seemed to be available 24 hours per day. There was a change in management when we came this past December. The new managers are great. The wife in particular has obviously had a great deal of experience in the hospitality industry. She is full of life and very welcoming. When it was time to leave she walked us out with our luggage and told us she hoped to see us again next year. (The previous managers couldn’t have cared less.)

The grounds and building are a bit run down but I’m sure with the new management things will improve vastly. There are a couple of places on the beach that are decent to eat at. However, the noise is unbearable when they bring in a boat load of tourists. In a way it’s fun and people have a great time but they need to turn down the decibels.

There are a number of places to eat within a short distance that have decent food but the best by far is Astrolabe. People there remember you from last year. They’re gracious, friendly and helpful. Their dinners are terrific and so is the atmosphere. It is not inexpensive but worth it to go.

Finally, regarding car rentals, I have always rented cars through L’Hoste in previous years. The reason was that they pick you up at the airport and drive you back to the airport when you leave. The problem with other car rentals is that when you leave, the rentals aren’t open or they have no shuttle to drive you to the airport some miles away. This year I had a terrible experience with the former manager’s car rental company but I understand that one of the former employees is going to start a car rental business full time in Orient Bay Village a short distance from the hotel. He is an extremely nice fellow and I’m sure will be good to work with. I will be going back next Christmas.
