“Could have been so much better.”
Reviewed April 8, 2012 via mobile

The hotel was nice and was close to the beach. There were thefts from rooms during our stay. After being publicly ridiculed for bringing beer from another bar to our beach chairs we decided to go elsewhere for our relaxation. It was one of the most embarrassing things that we have experienced while on vacation. The hotel staff were equally confused and told us that they did no know of such a policy. Also, there is no work out room as advertised in expedia. The beach is beautiful and the island is awesome. For a great time sign up for the eagles tour boat excursion. It is week worth the money and you get picked up and dropped off at you hotel.

Me and my wife stayed here for a week and loved every minute of it ! We did not have one single issue or problem. You come here to soak in the laid back lifestyle of the French side. If you are looking to chill at the beach, enjoy fresh rum punch and local flavor come to L'Hoste ! Trust me we will be back to this same hotel again. Hit the pool cookout and get a drink from Diddy I think thats how to spell his name pronounced "DEE-DEE" Oh and go down the way to KAKAO outdoor bar and tell G.P. that Lou the "pizza man" said hello ! Best chill bar...cheers !

Room Tip: we like the upper room and pool cookout

We stayed there in Jan. last year, and were pleasantly surprised by the level of service and the area it is in. Our 2nd floor chalet was very close to the beach and was clean and spacious. Every morning we would have an umbrella and 2 chairs set up for us right on the beach, sometimes we'd stay for lunch, other times we would leave and come back and they would set it up for us again. The beach is special, as are all the pretty people who walk it. Heading into the French dinning district is a breeze ( we had a car ) and there are many very good places to dine. Also several places you could walk to, although not of the quality that are available in the French area. I did notice a KFC, with chickens running around in the back, thought that was interesting. Also if you get to the other side of the island, La Sammona ( sp ) is worth stopping in for lunch or a cocktail. And finally the beach bar at the end the runway, at the airport is a very cool place to watch the jets land. You can almost touch them! All in all a very relaxing and memorable place.

We stayed here from March 17-24th, 2012. Weren't sure what to expect so no huge disappointments. Had to change rooms because ground floor room had moldy odour and very noisy fridge. Were accommodated with room change after 2 days. Much better conditions in second floor room, although rust still present in areas, as well as some stains on sheets and pillow cases. Tiny kitchenette but functional. Showers renovated and clean, toilet in separate area from remainder of bathroom (European style). Not sure if any rooms have ocean view, mostly garden views. Beautiful breakfast area by the beach however breakfast itself might as well not be included unless you like to eat toast and croissants only. Yogurt available on some days. Nice beach bar: mixed drink price average 6 Euros. Beach chairs, parasols and towels free of charge. Orient Bay water tends to be wavy, gad a few rough days. Lots of water sports. Water at Grand Case as well as on Dutch side is calmer. Front desk open 8am-8pm.

Room Tip: Avoid ground floor.

L'Hoste was better than expected after reading some reviews. The room was spacious and everything you could want was provided. The shower and bathroom was big enough to party in.Unfortunatley the water pressure wasnt so good some days and 1 day we had no water for 18 hours! La Playa provided a great breakfast, clean and with smiling service. The location was great for the beach and for evening entertainment and food at the Orient village. My only complaint was the shiny slippery mattress!!

I just spent a week at the hotel with my husband and 11 year old son. I had read the reviews before going and was a little concerned but it was a lovely week. As promised the hotel has large rooms, nothing fancy with a kitchenette. The beds were firm and comfortable. We stayed on the main floor and while other's on the second and third floors complained of the water pressure, it wasn't great but it was fine for us. The beach is beautiful and even if you were in the farthest building from the beach you are just a short walk away. I would actually think about taking a room farther away next time as I found being in the third building from the beach a bit noisy at night when the waves are crashing. Orient beach is windy with waves but a short trip to Pinel Island is a great way to spend a day renting a beach chair (2 chairs, 2 drinks and an umbrella for $15us) with no wind or waves. There is snorkeling there and trails to walk, a cute boutique and restaurant/bar. We often found restaurants and stores that would take us $ on par with the euro. Others charged 1.30. We rented a car which gave us flexibility to tour around when we wanted which was great but there are plenty of taxi's. We meet other larger families who would use the same driver on call. The parking lot for the hotel is free and even though the hotel was full we always found a spot. A short walk from the hotel is the Orient Village which is a collection of restaurants all facing a square, which made it great for kids who ran around while the adults could see them from their tables and the food is terrific. We loved the Thai place called TaiChi and my son loved Safari Grill. There was a different activity each night, a musician, or kid entertainment, or a bacci ball game to watch. We were there for the school break so there were kids around but we were told that it's mostly older people who like the quieter laid back vibe of the beach who come to this area. The hotels on the beach are backed by houses and the area is gated at night so it felt quite safe. I google mapped the hotel when I read a post saying that it was hard to find, but there is signage to the hotel once you pass through the gate, we had no problems. The only wifi is in an open area near reception and it's a haven for biting bugs at sunset. I've seen other postings of people being bitten and mistakenly thinking they are bed bugs but they aren't. (Esmeralda) You will see people in restaurants with a can of bug spray on the table. I wish I had used some. We are used to Mexico where they spray so much I've never even seen a bug, not so here. They could really use something, it's that bad. The beach is so beautiful and long with white powdery sand and blue water. In the morning it is quiet, a perfect time for long walks. During the day the beach clubs up and down the beach rent chairs and umbrellas with plenty of dining options and water sports. We loved eating in Grand Case, check out the lolos and small cafes. We loved walking around Marigot, except that we got suckered in to a time share tour by this very nice girl just trying to make a living. It's a Westin property in Dawn Bay, it was so horrible. If someone approaches you walk away!! Overall we loved it. We will be back!

Room Tip: From what I can gather the rooms on the second floor have nicer furnishings but the water pressure g...

As others have commented -- they have a serious water problem. Off completely once or twice for a major portion of French St. Martin and often low pressure at other times. We were at far end top floor unit. Approach to that building definitely needs work. The room was very nice, but often little water. Sometimes they were able to help this. They offered to move us to a lower floor.
Pleasant setting, and only steps from the beach and La Playa restaurant. Good value [all good beach locations are expensive on the desirable French side] Free wifi in reception area. Very pleasant, friendly staff. The breakfast people at La Playa very good. Lacks feel of big hotel -- which we like.

Room Tip: Suggest get rooms on second floor [one above ground level]
