Le Brecy B&B
Reviewed May 25, 2010

Le Brecy is a very nice and pleasant B&B, located in a wonderful environment. Mr and Mrs Lanquest are very kind and helpfull. They can tell you a lot about the environment, e.g. for the interesting abbey nearby, and have tips for restaurants. They serve a nice breakfast.

My husband and I stayed four nights at Le Brecy in the self-contained annexe. We arrived through the village of St Martin De Bosherville and were delighted by the lovely surroundings - it is a small but charming village with a lovely bar/tea room, a boulangerie, charcutie, pharmacie and a very famous Abbey!

We found Le Brecy with the help of our SatNav, it is just on the outskirts of the village next to a dairy farm. We were greeted warmly by our hosts, and shown into the property, and to the parking area which is right by the entrance. Their lovely dog 'Rustine' is very friendly and will happily let you make a fuss of her. One of the first things we noticed is the peace and quiet, just the sound of a few cows mooing, and at dawn the cock crowing! Because we had such lovely warm weather, and Le Brecy is right next to the farm there were some rather annoying flies in our room, but Madame Lanquest sees to it that fly spray is available at all times, and we soon became used to closing our windows before going out for dinner and giving the rooms a good spray so that when we returned they were no more! Of course this is country living, and a small inconvenience for what is otherwise a delightful situation.

The annexe itself is self-contained from the main house. It is on the ground floor - so no lugging your suitcase up any stairs - and has its own private entrance into a sort of lobby area with a small kitchenette, (available to use at a small extra charge). This would be ideal if you wanted to make your own light meals and save money on eating out , we actually only used the fridge for wine and mineral water, (although the tap water is perfectly fine too). Just off this area there is a toilet (separate from the bathroom). Being a rural setting it is a septic tank so nothing can be flushed down the loo, but lined bins are provided for tissue waste, and of course emptied every day :-)

Also in this lobby area is a desk full of information; brochures, books etc., that Patricia has provided for her guests. Both Patricia and Jerome speak English and are very kind and helpful, always willing to offer suggestions for somewhere nice to go, or a restaurant. We ate in some amazing places, all nearby, and Patricia was kind enough to call ahead and make the reservations for us.

A door from the lobby area leads into the spacious and airy bedroom, which is quaint and charming. There are two comfortable single beds pushed together, a large antique wardrobe and other furniture of character. The views onto the garden are lovely. The bathroom has shelf space for toiletries, hand soap and shower gel sachets are provided and the shower is perfectly adequate, with plenty of hot water available at all times. Patricia sees to it that all is clean and tidy and any wet towels are replaced.

Breakfast is served in another annexe room next door to ours. It was an amazing room, full of character and object'd'interest! Each morning we went in to find the table laid out for us with a pot of hot coffee, fresh croissants and homemade jams. Also various yoghurts, or sometimes fromage frais or soft cheese. Always a nice start to the day, and you can choose what time you want breakfast too! We saw other guests around the property, but it was always just the two of us at breakfast. Apparently there is also a family suite available to rent inside the main house, although we didn't go inside at all.

Le Brecy is a good place to go for some rest and relaxation, you are right by the river Seine and can take the little car ferry across at Sahurs. The surrounding countryside is absolutely beautiful, and it seems a million miles away from the stress of modern living. Although, if like my husband you have to check your email occasionally, WiFi is available at a small extra charge. It is not on 24hours, you just have to ask Jerome to turn it on.

The main reasons we chose Le Brecy for our holiday was its genuine charm and character, its reasonable cost, and its location which is perfect for trips to Rouen, (15 mins away), Honfleur (about 90mins), and the highlight of our trip, Monet's gardens at Giverny, (about an hour away). On all these points we were not disappointed. Le Brecy is good value for money and a nice place to stay. We would recommend it to our friends and family.

Our thanks to Patricia and Jerome for a very enjoyable stay.

A beautiful, quiet place reccomended to someones who is looking for a characterictic, peaceful place to relax in the countryside close to Rouen (12 km). We were hosted by a friendly couple who were always willing to give information about the surroundings and who had left Chocolate pralines on the pillow:). Beautiful room with large window- seemed to be taken from a very fairytale. Great breakfast with homemade jams and classical music in the background. Interesting to see: the Abbazia di Boscherville about 5 minutes from Le Brecy.
Only negative side: arrival time until 19 o'clock...can be difficult if you remain blocked in a traffic jam in Rouen. Price ok. All in all a place to come back!!!

My parents, a friend, and I stayed at Le Brecy as part of a larger trip to England and France. The hosts were wonderful and the accommodations were nice, clean and comfortable. It was a perfect rural compliment to our time in London and Paris. And, Patricia laid out a a delicious breakfast for us before our departure, complete with baked goods and jams she had made herself. I wished we had had more time to relax and enjoy the courtyard. If I ever am back in that part of France, I'd certainly consider staying again.

One word of caution: make sure you map it out well or have a GPS, we got lost on our way and it was a bit tricky finding the address.

My husband and I traveled through Europe for one month staying at various hotels and B&B’s; Le Brecy was, by far, one of the nicest places we stayed. Our large comfortable room, which overlooked a small park nestled in the Seine Valley, was beautifully decorated and immaculate. Our hosts Jerome, Patricia, and their daughter Philippine made us feel like part of the family, fed us delicious food, and gave us great tips on site-seeing in the area. Le Brecy was such a welcome contrast to hectic city life that I wanted to stay so much longer. The price is very reasonable for such a lovely B&B that I will recommend Le Brecy to all my family and friends.

Nothing but positive words to say about Le Brecy. The hospitality is amazing, only two rooms are rented out, we had breakfast by ourselves in a cozy small dining room alining the walled garden. It's about a ten minute drive into Rouen with easy directions. The room itself was on the third floor, spacious, very clean. Would recommend it to anyone who wants to visit Rouen!

We spent a week at Le Brecy, just needing to see another region of France. It is almost like having a small apartment of one's own. There are no other guests, and the bedroom, shower, sitting area and kitchenette give one freedom to do as one wishes. A very comprehensive breakfast is provided and taken in Madame's dining room. Madame Lanquest is always helpful and ready to suggest things to do,places to see and restaurants to eat in.
We would go again.
