We stayed one night at the LMV guest house. Meeting Hashan and his mother was one of the highlights of our holiday. They couldn't have been more welcoming, kinder or more generous. In the evening I was given a stool in the kitchen to watch our dinner being prepared, tasting a whole range of ingredients I had never heard of before. Seeing everyday Sri Lankan food being prepared, makes the whole process seem a lot less daunting for when you get back home.
My wife left her phone behind in our room. Hashan went beyond the call of duty to get it back to us. The view is beautiful from the house. We slept well, we ate well and we were treated exceptionally well.

Me and my wife stayed here for 3 nights, From the time we arrived at the station we had a warm welcome. it started off with a free tuk tuk ride to leisure mount view. when we arrived we were amazed by the view from the guest house. The lady of the house welcomed us with a nice cup of tea, which made us feel like home. The room was very clean, so was the toilet/bathroom and mosquito free. nice hot shower facilities. we were provided with home cooked food by the lady of the house, i would say it was one of the best food ive had in sri lanka. The host Hashan was very friendly he went out of the way to make us happy. My wife's bday was in the trip, i mentioned it to him and he provided us with a cake as a surprise to my wife. The family recommended us to places to visit and arranged a tuk tuk for us to go see them, and the prices were very reasonable compared to what we were told at the haputale town. The family made us feel like part of their family. i would definitely come and stay in the guest house again. i wish hashan and his family all the very best, and hope they carry on their excellent work.

thank you
Chrishan & Ruby

We've stayed a couple of nights in the beautiful mountain-town of Haputale and stumbled upon this guesthouse by chance. We couldn't have been more lucky!

Hashan, who was running the house while attending the hotel-school at the same time put so much effort in it and was a great help around town. The food was the best we had in all of Sri Lanka and the owners take long strides to provide you with everything you're looking for (e.g. getting beef from the market in Bandarawela).

From the terrace, which sits atop the construction site for the new guesthouse, you have a magnificent view. From the rooms not so much, but for the price, you get good value in terms of cleanliness and service. In fact, the rooms are rather small, but you have to consider that it's a guesthouse rather than a hotel. We've been outside or in the living area most of the days and didn't take any discomfort from the small room. The bed was fine.

The whole family really puts much effort in it and makes you feel welcome, that's the main reason for us to give four stars, even if it's not a fancy beach resort in Tangale or a colonial villa in Nuwara Eliya. We've had a great time there and will come again, and nowhere else in Haputale.

Room Tip: The room just right to the entrance area is the best in our opinion.

Like others we booked this hotel based on trip advisor reviews and were very underwhelmed. It is true that the location is nice as it is set on the edge of a tea plantation and has beautiful views for miles, however this could be said for many hotels along this same road in Haputale. The room was ok but very small and felt a bit musty. The food was very average but overpriced and we had one of our most expensive beers in Sri Lanka here. The owner's son was very pleasant and helpful.

I booked this based on excellent tripadvisor reviews but couldn't believe it when we arrived. i don't expect much, clean and value, but sadly it failed on both. Our first room was like a prison; no window and no room to put suitcases down, it also had damp in all areas. We moved into the front room which was better but still had damp walls and mould. The guy only shook the sheets in the room we vacated as opposed to cleaning them for the next person staying in the room. The bathroom was one of those places you tread carefully for fear of catching something and hover over the toilet seat so you don't have to touch it. The food was very average compared to our other guest houses and when I was presented the bill it was hugely over priced. Our 3&5 year old were charged the same price as us, 4 chicken curries charged but only 4pieces of chicken in total. I do feel for the family in their situation and I hope when the new build is complete it will be worth it but I get the sense they have either given up on the current rooms or simply run out of money. Having said that, the view is the best we had in Sri Lanka and the family did try, but compared to our other 8 guest houses this was probably the worst.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else.

We booked to stay 4 nights but made the decision to leave the next morning as soon as we got there. This place is incredibly overpriced for what it is. We paid LKR3500 for the room. It is worth 1500-2000 at most (and if you check their own website the price is around this, but clearly marked up to make the most of high season). The room was so tiny we could barely walk around the bed. It was full of mosquitos and no netting over windows - so had to shut the windows overnight and subsequently the bathroom smelt putrid (actually quite unbearably so) the next morning. There is no a/c nor fan - not that you need it in the climate there, however this should be reflected in the price. All the guest room doorways are located within a 3m space, off the dining and lounge rooms, which means you hear every noise from everyone coming and going etc. It was like living in a rabbit warren with 7 other people. The shower was absolutely the worst we've had in nearly 2 months in Sri Lanka - the pressure was a hiss or spray of warm water only.
The good points were a free pickup from the bus station and simple but nice food for breakfast and dinner (500-600 for a veg curry). However even after the owner lowered the room price to 3000 we were still charged 3500 on departure. On arrival we weren't even greeted and stood in the entranceway (with all our packs on backs) while the owner walked right past us to talk to some people outside. There are absolutely no views from the rooms and outside is a building site with a concrete slab you can stand on to see the view. Its a nice view but not a relaxing place to see it from.
We are very experienced travelers and overall this was one of the most disappointing stays we've had. If the owners put their rooms in a correct price bracket (below 2000) then it might be a viable option to stay, but compared to other accom in Sri Lanka you are best to find another option.
