After staying two nights we got a pretty good impression of mr. Bawa and his friendly family. We got to experiance excellent home prepared currys. We were allways sat to the full table. Mr. Bawa is full of informations, and has an answer for any question. Also, you have to aks him for his amazing collection of gems.
The rooms are good value for the money, and get to experiance hospitality of Bawa family.

Oh I cannot say enough good things about Bawa Guesthouse. The View is fabulous, rooms are affordable yet full of comfort, the water hot, the atmosphere inspiring, the house cat adorable (seriously, I love the cat) and the food, oh the food! Words cannot describe the beautiful tastes that Mrs. Bawa creates.
The Bawa's are such beautiful people, they left us in charge of the guesthouse for a day and a night - welcoming us into their family. I can't wait to visit again!!

How friendly can a family be! This is more a homestay than a guesthouse since they rent out 5 rooms in a building on the grounds of their own premises. You eat in the living room of the family where you are more than welcome. The food cooked is a really nice veg. and curry and not expensive at all.
We stayed in a large room with 3 beds and balcony with a superb view to lowland Sri Lanka. The room was damp and the carpets on the ground were wet. Because of that we had to open windows to get the smell out. The beds are hard to sleep on, since mattresses were thin. There were no sheets on the bed only blankets. However you could really see they tried to keep rooms clean and when we asked for sheets they immediately provided them.
Haputale is your average Sri Lankan town with not a lot of charm, but the surroundings make up for that. Really nice area to walk, lovely tea estates around and a good access to Horton Plains National Park. In communicating with locals they all seem to envy the role Ella plays in tourist industry, which I found a little disturbing.

If family put their enthusiasm in to upgrade the rooms a little this could be a very nice guesthouse to go to.

When we arrived at Haputale station after 6 hour train journey, the person from other guesthouse kindly called them and let us know that they forgot our reservation and reconfirmation on email. We had to wait more than 30 minutes at the little tea shop next to the station in uneasy feeling...
But anyway, they appeared to pick us up finally and welcomed us warmly. It was our first time to stay at Muslim people's house. They are nice, kind, friendly people. We enjoyed talking with them and looking their collection of jewelry.
Bawa's wife is a wonderful cook! Every dish we had in breakfast and dinner was very tasty, we cannot forget.
The room was big, simple and old (if they renew the carpet, it will be much better, I think). The view from the balcony was nice when the weather is good. In Haputale the climate is cool and humid (foggy), it is better to take some warm cloth for good sleep.
You can walk to the station (about 15 minutes) using the foot path behind the guest house, that was convenient. When we stayed there, the street in front of their house was collapesed because of the heavy rain, we hope it will recover soon.

Very friendly owner. We got from him a lot of useful informations about Sri Lanka and what have to see. The room was spacious with hot water and mainly, with nice view from balcony. I can recommend, when you want to visit tea planatations near Lipton' s Seat and a tea factory Dambatene.

A good guesthous with spectacular view and friendly owners. At first when we couldn't find where this guesthouse is, a man proposed to take us there and it ended up that he came from another hotel. Luckily, Mr. Bawa popped out from his place and introduced us that he is from this Bawa Guesthouse.

We we followed him and after seeing the sign, we were sure that we came to the right place. It costed us 1,200 Rp for a twin-bed room with hot water and a terrace. The view is breath-taking. That night we had a delicious dinner at the guesthouse with other travellers. Mr. Bawa is very friendly and talkative (that's a way you can tell him apart from others who claim to be him) and always show his guests some maps that he has :)

Run by a very friendly family, this place is in a very quiet environment - a ten minutes walk to town. Fahad (the son of the owner) came to pick us up at the train station for free and gave plentiful of information on the surroundings without trying to sell anything, which is more than appreciable in Sri Lanka!
The home made dishes are delicious, and you can ask for any Sri lankan specialt ty if you want to try real local food.
Bawa, the owner, can tell you the story of the world from the 15th century, amazing man!
The room are very spacious and have balconies. We paid 1,200 lkr per night and you have to pay extra for food.
We totally recommend this place! We stayed at many different places during our trip of 15 days, this one stands out as the best value of all!
