We stayed 4 nights at the Srilak View and had a fantastic time. The rooms are basic but clean and comfortable enough considering the price we paid. The advertised hot water was indeed hot! But the main feature of this hotel is not the rooms - its the amazing view, the good food, and most of all the friendly staff. We watched the cricket on TV with them at night and had lots of laughs. It is a hotel with a family guesthouse feel.
Yes there is a mosque right next door and you will hear the morning call to prayer at 4.45am (especially if you are in the new building), but it doesn't go for very long. Yes there was some noise from a building site nearby (is there anywhere in Sri Lanka that isn't near a building site?) but the staff, the food and THAT VIEW more than compensate for these inconveniences. The manager organised a tuk tuk to Lipton's Seat and a car to Tangalle for us, very easy. There is also a small Ayurveda massage place just up the street, we had an excellent massage there.
We also stayed in Ella, and we much prefer Haputale - it feels like a more traditional hill town and you are virtually surrounded by tea plantations.

After a couple of days trekking in the hills I was looking forward to a warm shower and a rest. Arriving to a tiny room, having to make my bed, not having warm water and being literally next door to a building site (extension) with banging did not set a good first impression.

In the end the following morning I figured out a combination of turning the shower as a drizzle for several minutes made it go hot, sadly too late for my girlfriend, and the builders were luckily quiet at normal sleeping time.

We desperately did not want to have to eat here, after the poor first impression, but after much exploring I failed to find anything other than bakehouses so we went for it. The food was actually great. Don't judge a book by the cover.

If you are booking I would check the room you are getting, try an get a view.

We stayed in room 27, and although world's end is not far away, this room's view is more beautyful than that hotspot.
The service and prices are very good and we can recommend this hotel to anyone who travells to Haputale.
The food is very good, and the vegetables come straight from the gardens beneath the place!

We stayed here for three nights. The view from our balcony was the best in the whole three weeks we've spent traveling round Sri Lanka. It took my breath away. The bedroom was clean and the bathroom too but the hot water was tepid. The staff are fine and the value for money good. I'd recommend this place if you don't mind the call to prayer often and all day. However once we'd got used to it it didn't disturb us and it's so loud I don't think there is anywhere in Haputale you wouldn't hear it.

Room Tip: Third floor gets the best views

We stayed for one night on our way through - didn't really like this place but it's more due to weather than anything else. It was very cold and raining outside so the room was freezing as well and there was no hot water in the shower. Don't really remember much more than cold, cold, cold. They had lots of blankets though - and the view was beautiful.

The value is good. The view is beautiful and for what you're paying it is completely worth it. The food is however a bit expensive but it is on par with all the other guesthouses in town. Not to mention the food is absolutely amazing. The curries are spectacular and surprisingly the sandwiches are great too. I took a chicken sandwich on a trek and it was filled with a Sri Lankan chicken curry which turned out to be amazing and a fair portion. The staff are extremely friendly and always willing to help. The only downside is my room smelt a bit like mold but this may be because Haputale is quite damp. I think the rooms in the first building where the restaurant is located, may be better.

Room Tip: Choose a room in the same building as the restaurant, on a higher floor which faces the view. One of...
