“Noisy room, slow service”
Reviewed March 9, 2013

The room we had at Srilak View was nice and clean with a fantastic view all the way to the Uda Walawe reservoir (when no fog).
However, the very slow service and noise do not make it a nice place to stay longer.
Staff was helpful to organize the excursion to the Lipton Seat early morning and gave good advice.

The Lonely Planet guide mentioned this hotel as almost the best in Haputale (for its price), so we made our reservation a day ahead. After arriving we found ourselves in an overpriced tiny and dark room facing the yard with a damp yet clean bathroom. No towels or soap, which I would actually expect after the price had risen threefold (in comparison to the 2012 prices mentioned in the guide).
We had the impression that having been mentioned and acclaimed, this hotel pretends to be something "better", and it is not, by no means. Was the room for half the price, I would not whinge and give it a 4star review - we stayed in better rooms for much better prices in the mountain region of Srí Lanka.
The meal we had was good, view from the restaurant was superb. The staff (or the guy who served us) was a bit too helpful, would not move from our table and pressed us into buying more services.

Room Tip: After this experience, I would suggest trying to find a room in a different place, or perhaps get a...

The room is reasonably clean and good view of the mountain. Food is tasty with reasonably price. And.. the a room only cost USD40 per night including breakfast.

Bring along your warm clothes / sweater as night time can be freezing cold

The complimentary tuktuk from the train station was a very nice touch but couldn't make up for the sleepless night we had. The walls are so thin we could hear BOTH sides of the phone conversation next door. A loose tin roof was banging in the wind all night. Rooms are outside so you have to go out in the rain to get to them from the reception/dining room. The views are good, if you can get them. We had a brief glimpse from our balcony between 06:25 and 06:28 before the clouds rolled in again.

We stayed here 2 nights hoping to hike worlds end, unfortunately the weather did not cooperate. The hotel is a walk away from the bus and train station. The staff is very helpful arranging your activities. We stayed in the family room, which was not attached to the hotel. It slept 4 of us comfortably. Water was only luke warm and there is no heat in the room. The room was clean and the beds ok. Pillows could have been less lumpy, but for the price we couldn’t complain. The views from the restaurant are beautiful when the weather is clear and there are places to sit outside and enjoy the scenery. We went to the Dambatenne Tea Factory tour, which was a pleasant surprise. The 30 minute local bus trip was breathtaking and the 45 minute tour interesting. I would not make a special trip to Haputale unless you are planning on hiking worlds end. There is not much to do in the town and there are no real restaurants. Most people go to Ella; our only regret is we did not make it there this trip. Check the weather before making the trip, if it calls for rain don’t bother!

Room Tip: The rooms that face the back in the main hotel have a beautiful view of the valley.

Check mattresses for mold despite clean sheets. Ours was terrible and very damp.

Restaurant not really that good. One of the places where you can order different things but you get what they want you to get.

It all felt like a scam

Amazing views, clean rooms, good service by friendly people. Very nice food (their rice & curry is excellent) to very affordable prices. Owner & colleagues will help arrange tours to the sights nearby. They're associated with a good driver, Rahim, who is friendly and drives safely and whom we recommend for drives to World's End etc. Only drawbacks were the proximity to the mosque, and some problems w water heater in our bathroom which meant we only had luke warm water to shower in. Despite this, all in all this is a really good place to stay and gives great value for money.
