Srilak View Holiday Inn
Ranked #5 of 41 Haputale B&B and Inns
Reviewed November 20, 2012

We returned here having stayed at the Sri Lak 9yrs ago. Like our visit visit, the best thing was the view and the service from the young wait staff. We stayed for three nights.

The rooms are clean and beds comfortable and warm. The pots of tea were large and the view amazing. Early rising is a must, to see the escarpment before the cloud rises, and is ensured anyway by the 5am call to prayer from the nearby Mosque. Not a place for a sleep in. But most guests are rising early anyhow for trips to Horton Plains, World's End or Lipton's Seat. The clouds roll in by 10am, so you do need to head out early to get the full impact of these gorgeous places.

The breakfast is omlet, fruit and toast. The lunch/dinner menu is fairly ordinary guesthouse choices. The layout of the hotel is odd, with dark corridors and strange sitting areas. But the point of being in Haputale is being out and about anyway. The service from the young waiter was warm and attentive. The management was stand-offish and there was a collection of 'middle management'??? whose purpose I couldn't quite workout. There wasn't a female employee in sight, which I have to admit made me a little uncomfortable. The service and decor could do with a 'feminine touch'. Everything seemed to be done by the same young fellow...

SriLak seems to have booking arrangements with large tour groups and hosts the occasional local wedding party. They confidently organise tours and tuk tuks at fair prices. In general, a functional place to stay. Haputale is a sweet little village waiting for someone to open up a mid-sized guesthouse with a 'bit of heart and atmosphere'.

Room Tip: There is a family room on the ground floor corner. Large and has easy access to a table for breakfas...

The place isn't really charming, the terrass is nothing special but the rooms are clean and spacious, and the curry is amazing and really cheap. We spent like 4$ for the curry, and 25$ for the room, breakfast included.

we had a wonderful stay here.the rooms are clean and the beds are up to the standards.they do provide extra lined free of charge as well.Great mouth watering food.plus free wifi access in the restaurant.Mr.Sampath the owner of this place (is the deputy city Mayor of Haputale) is a pleasing and friendly gentleman. They did organize us a taxi for worlds end with breakfast at early morning.
The views are amazing on clear days.

The manager and staff are very friendly and helpful specially Thusitha the right hand of the management and the intelligent guy with spectacles whose name we couldn't remember made our stay so comfortable. We would love to visit this place again and will highly recommend as the number one choice in Haputale

Room Tip: Rooms in older wing

The view from the hotel is amazing but here stops the positive review.
We booked via phone and got offered two different rooms for two different prices but when arrived we were put in the more expensive room without any possibility to chose. What we paid was quite much for the size of the room, the non-functioning tv and the friendly cockroaches. To be honest this wouldn't have been much of an issue in the overall experience if the staff didn't try to keep each and every guest apart in order to avoid any tour pooling. We decided to go alone and had a great experience by catching a public bus to the Lipton tea plantation (ask for that at the central bus station). At the end who lost is the Srilakview Holiday Inn's management who is getting this bad review; but do stop in Haputale... definitely the right choice to experience the high lands!

here is the ture. many of above says it'd good. the secret is they travel with a guide. if you go with a tour guide, you get best from there. so people say " very good" . because there are no many tourist for haputale , only a guide can make tour though it. so they give good care for guide's guest because he bring guest to this place regularry, but if you go individual, it's terrible. Room price is too much also food is cost a lot. No hot water, water leak in bathroom, insect everywhere. Also i never seen a place which charge service charge for room also. when we say " no onion and garlic' guess what , they add. bathroom terrible and pillow and bed sheets are not wash and give bad smell. if you travel to haputale , it's better to pay more and stay another place unless you pay high and get very poor quality

We had a clean, 3 bed, top floor room in the new block. It had fantastic views from the balcony. The bathroom was new and lovely. The vegetarian Sri Lankan Curry was excellent and good value. We didn't hear the mosque in the morning! Recommended.

We stayed one night in this good and well run hotel. Haputale it self is not beautiful but the sceneries and the surroundings... Superb! We had a room with a balcony looking to the valley. Highly recommended.
The staff was very nice and very helpful.
Regarding rhe mosque: we woke up to prepare for our "World's end" hike before the "Mo'azin call" has begun so we can tell that the hall thing lasts for about two seconds. I believe it is tolerable. For the very sensitive among you I too would recommend using ear plugs.
