When we arrived it was during a heavy rain storm . We were met by the owner who said he had only one room available a triple with attached bath room . The cost was 2200Rs a little more than we expected . As we were a couple we asked if we could get it a little cheaper but he said this was the price for the triple room . As it was raining we were not going to try and find somewhere else so agreed to take it .
When we had a good look at the room there was a lot of mould on the walls and the room had a musty smell . The bath room needed a really good clean and also smelt .
We went down stairs and met the wife who was very friendly . The food was good but expensive so it is better to eat in town .
After a restless night we got up in the morning and decided that we could not stand the smell in the room any longer . We walked down the road to the Srilak View and got a beautiful room in the new wing for 2000rs .
When we went back to the ABC to collect our bags the lady offered us another room for 1000Rs with shared bathroom - we thanked her but declined the offer . We did feel sorry for the lady as she tries hard but the place needs painting and repair.

We stayed here for 3 nights on our month trip around Sri Lanka. Perfect location right in the heart of Haputale and lovely views over the tea plantations and mountains. We had a room on the 2nd floor with a nice little balcony. No bathroom for 1200Rs a night. There was a little mould on some rooms walls which I would try to avoid but they have many rooms you can choose from. We were apporached by the owner at the bus stop - he seemed friendly enough but did not go out of his way at all.... and I did get the feeling he was trying to up-sell us things but dont most Sri Lankans! The home cooking was delicious but expensive, much cheaper to head to a local restaurant in town. Free wifi (that kept getting turned off!), hot showers and a close walk from the bus stop. The building is going on on the top floor so that was noisy during the day and early in the morning - so if you like to sleep in, perhaps try for somewhere else. Haputale is beautiful and a must stop town in Sri Lanka!

Lovely family who run the inn (the kids will want to play games), clean rooms, shower with hot water, good value for budget travellers to take a room with no view and shared bathroom (it's clean so no worries). Good location, just down some stairs from the station and town. Free wifi.

Solo travellers can negotiate down the price. It was homey and comfortable.

Nice hotel, great views of tea tree plantations. The hotel is located a few meters from the city center. We recommend dining in the city. The meal offered at the hotel was not very good.
Beautiful surroundings for trips.

This is not some swanky hotel - actually far from it. You are staying in someone's partly complete home so expect no luxury - but if you are expecting luxury for under 10 GBP then you must be crazy anyway. We were approached at the station by the owner of the guest house and usually we just look for own place to stay but the offer of a (very) cheap room and a free tuk tuk down the hill swayed us and I'm glad it did.
We picked a room on the third floor which had an unfinished balcony, (but you could still sit out there at your own risk) with probably the most breathtaking views I have ever seen anywhere in the world. You look directly into tea plantations and hills and sometimes the whole area gets taken over by a massive cloud or two - it's surreal.
The food in the hotel has given me the best Sri Lankan curry so far, but some of the western options can be pricey, but it is all cooked to order with fresh ingredients.
I would stay here instead of Ella and instead take a bus one way and a train back( just have your camera ready on the train) to make Ella an inexpensive day trip. Also Liptons seat is amazing if you get there on a good day. The owner is more than happy to help without selling you things and save us about 3 hours off our onward journey to Arugum Bay with his advice.
