“fleecing tourists”
Reviewed May 5, 2014

We went here because it was right on the beach in Calella afer a morning at several Costa Brava beaches (which are unbelievably beautiful). It was packed as were all the other places right on the beach at lunchtime (2:30 pm) The food was tolerable but no more - what you would expect from a place with a captive audience (lots of families with kids there for an early May weedend.) Then we got the bill. We were charged double for the wine. When pointed out, the double charge was subtracted (nothing resembling an apology) but we were still charged the 10% tax on the original total, an extra couple of euros. The waiter claimed not to understand why there was still an issue. When we paid the bill with this minor overcharge, it was converted from euros to dollars despite my request to pay in Euros ("Nothing can be done") The conversion rate was by far the worst we were charged, 10% over what it should have been, adding another few dollars to the bill. Chiseling money from tourists seems to be the specialty of the house. Caveat empetor. (And I wound up with an upset stomach from the food and the annoyance!!) Do yourself a favor. Don't go there.

“Beautiful view, great staff and a lovely experience”
Reviewed January 3, 2013

Context is everything. One doesn't judge a gastronomic restaurant in the same way as a more modest establishment. For what it is and what it offers I cannot fault Restaurant Tony's. The situation is idyllic, looking onto the beach and the sea, the service is attentive and friendly and the set menu offers excellent value for money. We had for starter a fish soup and fried eggs with 'anguillas' (little elvers) followed by fideua (similar to a pasta paella). Dessert was the usual offering in this part of the world. Everything was tasty and well cooked. Add to that a nice bottle of wine and life felt very good indeed. It is the second time we've eaten there and we shall certainly go back again. We also had a peek at what people were eating at the other tables and everything looked delicious. It is simple food, there is no attempt at creativity but there is also no reason why simple food cannot also be good and our meal certainly was that.

“Milking their location. Dreadful place”
Reviewed October 24, 2010

The location is superb. The food is just dreadful. The last time I ate here I was served mixed veg straight out of a tin. Try Can Gelpi instead
