“La Siesta, calella, a little bit of paradise”

We have just returned from a fantastic holiday at La Siesta, Calella De Palafruggel. We stayed in a lodge with Siesta. Siesta are an excellent company to travel with and we stayed in one of there lodges. All the staff on the site including the reps were fantastic. The site was constantly kept clean and tidy, the staff were so frendly. The resturant and bar staff are excellent, the takeaway was excellent. There is so much to do on site for young children, loads of play areas, bouncy castle, pool, games room etc..... it is such a fantastic place to go, its no wonder a lot of spanish people holiday there...... and where the place is? Calella...... a little bit of paradise on the North East cost of Spain.

Just returned from a two week holiday at Camping la Siesta with Canvas holiday. We flew via Ryan Air to Girona airport and picked up a taxi at the airport(75Euros).Taxi fares are preset on a sign at the airport which was good.Campsite reception is organised there are plenty of staff on site and security on the gates.Campsite shop is well stocked with most items .
Accommodation was a Canvas Classic two berth , which for three of us was good but a larger family may find it small! It had air conditioning which was good as we didn't see any rain whilst we were away and the temp did hit 30 degrees. The Canvas Reps were friendly and made us feel welcome and sorted minor problems out very quickly.
There are two pools which are both good, one quieter than the other. There are lots of activities organised(beach footballetc) and if you are into mountain biking or cycling(which we are) this is a great place to come. There are organised rides, of varying difficulty, which take you off the campsite into the surrounding forrest and countryside and some of the beaches. If you are really keen there are spinning classes in the morning!
We did not have a car and it is possible to walk down to the picturesque resort of Calella to go to the beaches, restaurants and bars. This has a very Spanish feel to the town and is not 'fish and chips' or Red Lion pub! Many of the Spaniards and French come on holiday here.
LLefranc is also 30 min walk from the campsite which has also restaurants hotels and bars. This is also a picturesque town with a good beach and small marina.
If you walk the along the cliff path you can also reach some small beaches and coves.
The beaches are clean and the water is clear and good for snorkelling. The beaches do get busy especially at the weekend.
We went on an organised trip to Barcelona from the campsite which went to the cathedral Sagrada Familia,Nou Camp ,Las Ramblas, ate at the Hard Rock cafe(which was well organised ), a tour round the olympic site and the Palace by bus and finally the "Magic Fountains' light and music show in the evening.Although I was sceptical of the "Magic Fountains' and I thought the Nou Camp would be the highlight for us as we like football, but the highlght was the 'Magic Fountains'.
We had a great time at this campsite and on the whole the staff were really friendly and polite, however, we only had a couple of gripes and that was with the restaurant and fast food outlet where the service was very slow and the menu in the restaurant a bit limited. The music for the kiddies disco can also sound a bit repititive after a while also.

Overall we had a great time and as we didn't have a car the site was ideal.

We booked our holiday with canvas holidays-£458 10 days june 09, we had a comfort plus caravan with decking and air con. e pre booked a taxi via internet at 130 euros each way but fortunatley they didnt turn up at the airport, i say fotunatley because we took one of the many taxis from the airport and it only cost us 75 euros. We arrived to the site early evening, the rep malcolm arrived on his bycicle to greet us, he saw we had 3 kids inc 1 in pushchair and 4 suitcases (plus hand luggage) he at once went to get his own personal car and gave us a lift to our caravan (the site is very large and quite hilly) he asked if we needed anything, food milk for baby etc, he said he lived on site and could get from his van, he was a lovely helpfull man. On arrival we were more that happy with our caravan, they were almost brand new, spotlessly clean and had everthing you could ask for, we had a wonderful deck with patio furnature and a gas BBQ-GREAT! Well the next day things only began to get better and better, the pool was fantastic- it had a water slide which the kids loved, the whole pool area is fenced off so kids cant escape when ur not looking (16m old)a lifeguard (and friend) to all the kids and adults, there is a restaurant which serves general meals and there is a take away which has the most fantastic spit roast chickens, the supermarket is very well equiped with good prices (cheaper than out of the complex) and the onsite bakery is to die for, fresh bread, croissants etc baked every day, there is a great playground and club house,a football pitch and vollyball pitch, the site is immaculatley clean, there are no mad larger louts accepted on site, you will only find lovely families and couples who appreciate the beauty of this hidden paradise. The walk down to the beach took us approx 10-15m with two kids and a pushchair, the way down is great, the way back up takes a little longer as it is up hill, gets those leg muscles working though. I must say when you get to the beach you will look around and say "WOW" it is so beautiful, very quaint little fishing village, there are some beautiful restaurants looking out over the sea, the beach however is not sand but shingle (the only complaint to be had) we walked to La Franc about 1/2 hour walk either on the sea front footpath or quicker through town on main roads(not busy roads) The thing that hit us most about Callella De Palafrugal is how spanish it really is, the people speak very little english-even in restaurants/bars, the life is slow and very relaxed. Please do not come here if you like the lights and fast nights, this is for relaxing and loving of true spain. We did not hire a car but wished we had because people we met had found so many beautiful places / beaches etc close by. We will definatley be visiting La Siesta next year (having never been the same place twice in over 20yrs)it was such a lovely place. ADVICE- book a hire car if possible or get a taxi from airport, do not worry about getting one they have a constant flow and much cheaper. Book with canvas holidays, the vans are immaculate, rep very helpful/friendly.get air con as it gets very hot without, the less mobile may find this town a little hard if you want to explore but ok if you stay on site(ask for flatter site-near playground) Try learning a bit of spanish before you go. BOOK THIS HOLIDAY you will love it.

We have just come back from a two week holiday at Camping La Siesta in Calella de Palafrugell. Having been camping for a number of years I would rate this campsite as one of the best equipped I have been on so far: doctor, pharmacist, supermarket, bakery, newsagent and cashpoint are all on site as are take away and restaurant (food quite poor for a restaurant but the usual burgers, pizzas etc which for a take away was ok). The supermarket in particular was surprisingly good value - we never bothered to go offsite for food since we value our time more than the odd euro saved.
We were originally concerned about comments made last year about the loud music all through the weekend. However, when we stayed (which was in high season including the first week in August) everything went very quiet from about 11.30 / 12.00 and stayed that way until 9.00 - great for a good night sleep! I believe, durig 2008 there were 2 discos offsite competing for customers by turning up their volume - one of them has since closed and this has led to a reduction in noise levels.
We went with Canvas Holidays and overall were very happy with the service received on site - however, due to the large number of Dutch customers, the uptake on the kids club (Hoopi's) was very low (3-6 kids on average) which was disappointing for our older daughter who usually loves to go.
Lots of trips that were worthwhile: Barcelona was a real highlight (take the car to Sils and then the train right into the centre - regular services in airconditioned surroundings) as was the visit of the ruins at Empuries (take beach stuff when you go since the site has direct access to the beach at L'Escala).
Campsite reception staff were extremely helpful (train timetable to Barcelona, recommendations for restaurants etc)
Another hit with our younger daughter was the minidisco on site (run from 21.00 - 21.30 which although a bit repetitive for us was great in terms of entertainment value for her. The campsite also shows films on a large screen mainly in English every night starting at 21.30. Other than that there was no real evening entertainment on site. Although this really suited us (since it kept the site quiet) it would not be a great site to take lively teenagers to.
Surrounding area as described previously - lovely in a quite upmarket Spanish way (more Abersoch than Rhyl) which did make eating out very expensive (meal for 2 adults and 2 kids can easily reach 100 euros) but therefore more of a treat.
Overall, we loved it and would definitely recommend it.

Camping La Siesta delivered a very good family holiday. if you are like me - a little apprehensive about holidaying on a camping site then all I can say is give it a go.

We were all set to book an apartment in LLfranc or Calella for around 800 euros without a pool when by chance we came across Siesta International. The late deal of 400 euros for a 4 berth Executive Lodge from 19th July 2009 appeared too good to miss, especially as we had already secured a cheap Ryanair deal from Doncaster to Girona.

The prohibitive cost of car hire meant that we arranged our transfers with the no frills Girotransfers. On arrival at the campite we were given a very good welcome and shown our 4 berth Executive Lodge. The size of the lodge was just about adequate for 2 adults and 2 children aged 7 and 10. The Lodge equated to a 2 star rating.

There is a microwave and satellite tv along with a double bed [thin mattress] and two small single beds. For a small deposit each lodge had access to a Gas BBQ which came in very handy as during our week the weather.

Thankfully, given the size of the lodge most of our time was spent outside. The site is so incredibly child friendly and this enabled the children to make new friends around a spacious pool and play area. As parents, we could sit back and feel more relaxed knowing that the kids were playing in a relatively safe environment.

The evening entertainment was so so, but catered for the european clientel. On site there is a small supermarket which sold the basics, including very nice fresh bread. There is also a fastfood place that provided reasonably priced snacks.

From the campite it is a steady 20 minutes stroll to Llfranc and Palfrugell. These beaches are real gems and tend to attract the more independently minded British holiday maker. Hence, there was no sign of "Fish and Chips" and/or "Red Lion" pub!

On reflection, I think the 6 nights we spent at the La Camping Siesta site was just the right amount of time. I would have no hesitation in making a return next year as it provides a safe environment for children to play and meet other children.

We travelled with Siesta Holidays and staye in the Siesta 4 Lodge. The site was very quite which was just perfect for us but I presume that it would be very busy in peak season.
Everyone arond our lodge was so friendly, asking if anyone needed anything when they went to the shop, chatting on the decking at night. The miniclub was open from 10.30am until 14.00pm and then from 16.00pm until 20.00pm which my daughter loved. All the staff n site were very friendly. The walk into the village takes about 10 minutes and I must say the views are breath taking, very much like Cornwall in the sun,No high rise buildings to be seen.Sat on the seafront with a coffe watching the Lobster pots being fetched ashore. If you want pubs and kiss me quick hats then please this is not the place for you.If you want to see a bit of the real Spain then pack your bags and head to Calella de Palafrugell.I for one will be going back.
