Hired the hostel for new year 2013/14 as part of a large group. Fantastic location, clean, modern and great facilities. walking and cycling is right on the doorstep. Just wonder down the hill for a welcoming pint of real ale or coffee and cake in the dales centre!

We stayed at Grinton Lodge over 30 years ago with our son and daughter for October half term and were the only visitors apart from a stag's head in our room. We went this half term with our daughter and 2 grandchildren, they had previously stayed in of of the 'glamping pods' with mum and dad so were keen to show us the youth hostel and surrounding area. The hostel has been seriously up graded and updated. We had a double room in one of the turrets with am amazing bathroom and my daughter had a small dorm with a walk through shower. We had a wonderful time, the staff are excellent, the hostel was busy and the food good.the area is lovely with lots of long or short walks with plenty of interesting walks for children such as the copper mines and lots of small villages to visit. We can't wait to go again

Room Tip: Several good rooms and of course the very popular glam ping pods

Stayed for one night in one of the camping pods. Had a great time and the pod was an ideal place to stay for a good nights rest. Beautiful surroundings and modern and clean shower and toilet facilities. Would definitely come and stay here again.

Grinton Lodge is an absolute gem of a hostel. Recently refurbished to a very high standard and in a wonderful location with views down to Reeth and Swaledale. The staff were tip top and the breakfast was of the highest quality. Must be one of the best hostels I've stayed at.

What a shocker this was!

First time in a YHA since I was very little, but this went beyond my expectations.

Fantastic location, bang up to date interior and a kitchen that's better than home!

Was great fun trying to find the room but when we found it oh boy was not expecting that, I'm afraid i'm not going to say anymore other than if your a couple....try and book the "Swale" room.

Not used to sleeping in single beds so it was a tricky night fighting a slippery duvet!

This was a 5* stay for the same price as a Travelodge and will certainly be staying here again but i've got 149 other YHA locations to check out yet.

I have just returned from 2 days camping at Grindon Lodge, this was my first camping trip with my 3 yr old daughter and 2 other familes, all I can say is we had a fantastic time.
The lodge facilities were excellant, we didnt have any food as we had brought loads but used the showers and toilets and the shared kitchen, which was a bonus when needing to wash up.
The views were excellant and the camping ground was great for the kids to run around and play where we could see them at all times. Staff were very friendly and helpfull when we needed advice on where we could go on the Saturday.
The only down side is the carpark is quite a little trek to the camping field so it was hard work carrying everything over, but apart from that we had a fab time and we will be returning next year.
Thank you for having us
