Having stayed at many world Famous Hotels such as Raffles Le Royal in Cambodia and Raffles Plaza (now Fairmont) in Singapore and Marco Polo Hotel in Hong Kong this hotel rates as one of the best in the world. It may not be in the same league as those descibed for size and location but it is the ambience that creates the atmosphere. The owner Derek and his staff create a welcome and friendliness second to none. The hotel offers an excellent comfortable stay, with great views of Swaledale, the best food and the portions are what you would expect in a first class restaurant and am sure Gordon Ramsay would say that it is rustic and homely. I will be returning to stay again soon.

We thought we would splash out and have the suite for our 3 day stay. Whilst we enjoyed ourselves there was not enough hot water for 2 people to have separate baths. When mentioned to the owner he was uninterested and said 'never had that complaint before' - proper Yorkshire!! (He could have offered us the use of another bathroom as well.)

We spent three nights in this remarkable small hotel, a luxury retreat in otherwise rather dull Reeth and in the heart of Swaledale, a walker’s paradise. We hope to return.

There are nine rooms, almost all overlooking the central green. The hotel is a conversion, with inevitable compromises e.g. room size varies and not all the private bathrooms are ‘ensuite’. But the country house decor is meticulously executed and the accommodation exceptionally comfortable. There are two sumptuous drawing rooms and an elegant restaurant which met the expectations created by its ambitious menu.

The operation is carefully managed by the ever present owner (does he ever go to bed?) whose multi-tasking is awesome and who vaguely conjures up memories of Basil Fawlty (but the service is much better).

This is by a margin the most expensive accommodation and dining option in the area but well worth the price in our view. Highly recommended for the affluent walker.

We 2 (middle aged, British, married -how dull!) support all the good things said by others. A long weekend.Everything exactly as it should be, 2 inventive and delicious dinners, spotless and comfortable room, quite adequate wine list, and owner and staff all had that lovely balance of efficiency with friendliness that you always hope to find. Quite a special place.

This hotel is beautiful, situated in the picturesque Yorkshire Dales. The whole hotel is beautifully decorated. Our room was delightful, with gorgeous views of the Yorkshire Dales. The room was exceptionally clean. The food is just fantastic! Absolutely mouthwatering, and well worth £31 for a four course meal. Derek, the hotel owner, was charming and friendly. A true gentleman, and the perfect host.
This was definately the best hotel I have ever stayed in. I would recommend it to anybody who is looking for somewhere luxurious, elegant and tasteful. I will definately be going back there again.

Have just returned south from a week in Scotland and we stopped on the way home for 2 nights in Reeth N.Yorkshire. Reeth is a beautiful small village in the Yorkshire Dales which is frequented by hill walkers, the scenery in the area is stunning. There are 3 pubs
(at least) and some B & B and a couple of hotels.
We stayed this time at The Burgoyne Hotel which is a country house hotel that was once the country home of I would imagine a very rich family. We had a room unfortunately overlooking the car park but the room and en suite bathroom were extremely well appointed and very comfortable, next time we will try and book earlier for a front view over the village and hills. Breakfast was enormous with just about all the items you would expect plus a few more. For the evening meal the plan was to go to the lounge at 7.30 pm for a pre dinner drink and to choose from a very extensive menu and then dine at 8 pm in a really nice dining room. Food was, as everything else in this hotel, excellent and the service was immaculate. There is not a bar as such but drinks will be served in either the non smoking lounge or the smoking one (all bedrooms and dining room are non smoking) there is also a front garden where, weather permitting, drinks could be served.
Altogether a really good 2 night stay and we definitely hope to return there one day.

We have just returned from two very relaxing nights at the Burgoyne hotel. The hotel is an old georgian building that has been well restored, with a lovely sitting room with a log fire. There isn't a bar but drinks can be ordered in the sitting room, tea and shortbread on cold rainy November day is a must! The hotel staff were very friendly and it was almost like a home from home, I'd recommend it to anyone. The hotel does not accept one night bookings on a Saturday night though.
