We stayed here in a campervan and found it to be a good if very quiet site. The welcome was warm and the site itself is clean and tidy. The facilities - shower block, laundry etc were good , clean and well equipped. Our pitch backed onto the golf course and we had a completely undisturbed night. There isnt much going on in the area though - but for us that was just fine.

While touring the South Island, we stayed here after enduring a grotty motel in Kaikoura, and the contrast was extreme. This place is amazing. The units are set in very pretty, spacious gardens, with the units spread well apart, It would be perfect for an extended stay. Our hosts were most helpful, and could not do enough to make us feel welcome. They did warn us to not leave our door open as a resident Weka (A NZ native bird) was apt to enter uninvited. Which it did once, when we got careless. The unit we used was perfect in every way - warm, clean, very well appointed and the only noise we noticed at night was the muted rumble of a distant coal train. While some off the main West Coast route, it well worth the detour.

Room Tip: Any unit is fine, they are all quiet and secluded.

We spent 3 nights here as part of a longer road trip around the South Island. The cabin we were given was very clean (it looked recently decorated) and reasonably well equipped for just 2 of us. The Motel is in a really beautiful woodland setting and we were given a friendly welcome upon arrival. The rates are reasonable for the accommodation offered and there is parking right by your cabin which makes for easy unpacking/packing. There was a nice verandah for enjoying the view outside if the weather allowed. The cabin offered good views of the local bird life and the property has the added bonus of being adjacent to the Midland Main Line of KiwiRail. The local road is quite near but carries very little traffic so this is not a problem.

The town of Moana has very little in the way of amenities and if you are staying here you will probably need to stock up in Greymouth which is about 30 mins drive away. If the weather is poor there is very little to do - we had planned 3 walks but were only able to do one. The cabins are heated only by a noisy fan heater in the main living room, and this was barely adequate in the damp and cold weather conditions obtaining at the time of our visit.

The bed in our cabin was very soft and extremely springy - any slight movement in the night produced a rolling motion which was quite unnerving. In addition, the 'settee' in the lounge sagged alarmingly in the middle when used and was not at all comfortable. This made the cabin feel rather 'second-rate' which was a shame as it looked well-maintained in all other respects.

There doesn't seem to be much happening in Lake Brunner, but I imagine that is part of its appeal. This complex is in a beautiful location - the sound of the birds in the morning is magical.

We stayed in a two bedroom cabin. The cabin was probably the smallest of all the places we stayed, probably two small for a toddler year old when it is cold and wet outside. It was also freezing when we initially arrived, from the floor up, and it took a fair length of time to get the temperature habitable. There was also a timer on the heater which seemed crazy in such cold conditions. Otherwise, the cabin was clean and well kept.

The broader complex had excellent facilities - a laundry and a general recreation area with computers. BBQs and outdoor activities were also available for a small fee. It was too cold when we were there to make use of these latter facilities.

Room Tip: Maybe ask the hosts to heat the room before you arrive

on arriving we were met by owner who had everything in order for our arrival. the accomm consists of individual cabins in their own grounds located just outside the small village of Moana. we were only staying one night enroute to Queenstown. the grounds were immaculately maintained and the cabins contained everything you might need. wireless internet could be received in your cabin for a small charge. the cabins were clean and tidy.
Lake Brunner was only a two minute drive away (beautiful views from the swinging bridge)
The owner, in her correspondence described it as "the special place" and i would have no problem going along with that. I would have no hesitation recommending this place to anyone.

We enjoyed a warm welcome and immediately saw that everything was kept scrupulously clean and tidy. We used the camper van plug-in site and enjoyed the use of all amenities for six nights.
We viewed the cottage units and have booked one for January to bring family.

We stayed two nights at in chalet No 7 in February. The chalet is well appointed with all the amenities you need to have a relaxing break after travelling from Akaroa. Unfortunately the weather was not very good (rain over Lake Brunner), but we enjoyed a great day in Hokitika and the West coast. Afterwards we relaxed on the verandah with a glass of wine whilst we enjoyed the sunset. Weka birds were visiting us most of the day too. And, make sure to bring bbq food for the evenings, as Moana has not much to supply you with. I recommend this place to anyone who likes peaceful life.
