“Best site on Costa Brava”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2014

If you are considering a family camping holiday on the Costa Brava, you cannot do better than Camoping Aquarius. Direct access to the beach, and what a beach, shallow gently shelving sea, means that it is safe for kids, however, there are lifeguards all along the beach as well, miles of golden sand perfect for sand castles, plenty of space for kites, football, volley ball, boules etc. There are areas reserved for non motorised watersports, where you can hire kit, take lessons etc (power boats and jet skis available a few miles down the beach - all power boats must stay 300m from the beach).

The site itself is immaculate, with attractive gardens and flowerbeds - this site really puts effort into making it attractive and intimate. There are plenty of toilets and washing facilities, with lots of hot water, and they are permanently cleaned by friendly staff. There are 2 great kids play areas, free crazy golf and a kids club. Because it is not a huge site, children can have a relatively large degree of freedom without having to worry

The site was setup by the Rupp Family in 1972 and it has remained a family business ever since. As the owners are German, it does have a significant proportion of German Families staying, however, I have never had a problem with communication, all of the staff speak excellent English, as do most of the German families, including their kids. On the whole, German campers are extremely polite, tidy and well behaved, which is more than can be said for other nationalities!

Some people will be disappointed by lack of a pool; who needs a pool when the sea is so close? Do you really trust that campsite pools are always clean? are they safe?

Only downside is that the Disco at L'Amfora (campsite 1/4 of a mile away) can be loud

Room Tip: Try to get a pitch in the older "shady" part of the site, where the site has been expanded...

We have just spent 3 weeks at Aquarius, and this was our third visit. This is a wonderful campsite: the Reception staff are so friendly and helpful; the cleaners work all day every day and the showers and toilets are some of the best we have seen; the gardens are beautiful; there is a well stocked shop and the site is right beside a fabulous beach. Lots to see and do in the area, and good cycle tracks to the village and beyond. Highly recommended. Takes Camping ACSI until 11 June, so currently 18 euros per night. Good wifi reception. We will be back!

Site couldn't be more spotless. Do agree though, too many Germans but they didn't overly bother me and my family. We went late June and had no tents/caravans around us but when we left it started getting busy. One fault was the campsite up the road had loud music to about 3am. had a meal at the restaurant which was lovely and not that expensive. The beach does have dogs on there in certain areas so watch out for mess.. that did put me off. One part of the beach is also a nudist beach. Overall a good holiday and would go back

Arrived today, site is spotless and well maintained but everything is German! The signs, the menus, the food in the shop. We obviously arrived during Germany's half term so the site is far busier than expected. There is absolutely no feel of Spain here and we will be moving on tomorrow, I would rather wild camp than stay another night!

We spent a week here in early June and were really impressed with the site. Even using our ACSI card there was a good choice of pitches available. They are of a good size some with a little shade some with non. The staff were superb, they could not have been more friendly and helpfull. The facililities are immaculate and plentifull. The take away pizza was good and the restaurant is well worth a visit. Not strictly a Spanish restaurant but one with a Germanic theme. It does have a beautifull terrace area.
The beach is fabulous stretching for miles. The only downside was that it was quite windy and at times you felt like you were being sand blasted. This is when we missed a pool area. Cycling is good in the area as it is prety flat and there are plenty of marked routes.
Evenings were spent in the Marlin beach bar which had live music on most nights. Again brilliant staff and not expensive.
Will we go back? Certainly

We stayed at the Aquarius camp site for the second time. It is well located near the small town of Sant Pere Pescador and is also close to the larger town of L'escala. There is a large beach with direct access from the campsite and the Marlin beach bar located nearby, however care should be taken if parking bikes at the bar as I had the unfortunate experience of having one stolen there last year. This site has the most helpful staff we have ever encountered and they are always pleasant to deal with. The pitches are nice and open which is a nice change from ones located in gloomy forests. Facilities are always immaculate and a small shop on site ensures basic necessities are easily available including a supply of wine from the cask at a very reasonable price. The take away food which we availed of one evening was the only down side to our stay as it was not that pleasant. There are several nice areas to visit nearby including roman ruins at L'escala. There is wine cellar called Mas Guso which is located a few minutes away. This is most certainly worth a visit as it contains a restaurant, lounge bar, delicatessen and boutique . Cycle lanes are to be found in the area but care is needed when using them as they are not always well defined. We would certainly return to Aquarius in the future as it is one of the nicest campsites in the area and there is plenty to see and do.
