Like most visitors to Meteora, we'd travelled up by car for a one/two-night stay. This newish hotel had come recommended and the online price for the first night (without breakfast) seemed reasonable. First impressions were mixed: the access road from Kastraki was more of a farm track wending its way between closely congested private homes, but the hotel facade with its ample parking was imposing enough. On entry, it was a wide, virile structure in wood and marble which continued throughout the building, as far as we could see. However, at all points of contact over our two nights, the Reception desk was disappointing: without warmth, interest, language. Our second day was rather messed around because the management wanted to charge us 25% extra for a second night (despite the fact the hotel was very largely empty). After I'd pointed out that we'd be happy to leave and find more cheerful accommodation in the village, the charge miraculously reverted to what we'd paid for the first night, though we had to return mid-morning because there were no managers on site at this 5* hotel at 8.00am, and the Reception staff simply coudn't themselves make a decision. The bedroom was gloomy: yes, the view was fine to Roussanou Monastery, but there were no 5* luxuries here, not even basic tea/coffee facilities or a guide to hotel services. The tourist pack was a tatty, photocopied affair which we didn't look at; the WiFi didn't work with any consistency; and the noises from the next-door room betrayed thin walls. The bathroom was similarly dark and dismal with unpleasant lighting and a shower space which was far too tight for comfort. All in all, then, measured against its pretentious 5* rating, this hotel simply doesn't measure up, hence the "poor" rating from me. Meteora itself was glorious, and we had great food in the local villages, but we won't remember this marble mausoleum or its inadequate staff.

The Grand Meteora is a luxurious hostelry set against the breathtaking view of the Meteora mountains and hanging monasteries. The room had all the standard amenities and was clean and spacious. Staff was extremely friendly and eager to be of assistance. This is the place to stay when visiting this exciting locale.

Lovely hotel with a great view of the Meteora mountains and some of the monasteries. Food was great and breakfast was also amazing. I enjoyed our stay here and will recommend this hotel to everybody who plans to go to Meteora in Greece. The wifi service was very slow and almost inaccessible....

We were surprised (and happy) when arrived at the hotel. The building was some kind of Greek style but quite modern and very clean - surrounded by mountain of stones - and the air was unimaginably fresh.

The room and beds were quite big and comfortable. We let the windows open for the amazing fresh air when sleeping. I just wish they had boiling water for my evening lavender teas.

The dinner is also nice - varieties of Greek foods. Wifi in each room, although it was not strong enough to reach my room at the end of the building.

If you need some groceires or some more local foods - you can walk to the center of village about 800m from the hotel.

I cannot say what I don't like about this hotel. Not perfect? Yes. But I will come back if visiting the Meteora area (which you should - especially you can visit the monastery filmed in the James Bond "For Your Eyes Only")

Room Tip: get a room closed to the center of the building for better wifi. Ask if you can get a view of the mountains.

In the middle of Meteora is this delightful hotel. The room was nice and had everything we needed. The staff was extremely accommodating and responded promptly to any request. We do enjoyed sitting on our balcony and viewing the monasteries at sunset and sunrise. Our buffet meal was very good and never rushed. Excellent stay.
