Unique vistas and beautiful monasteries. We were advised by the hotel that we could easily do the drive as large tour buses made the trip multiple times a day. We did drive and found it quite doable. Driving oneself allows timing to be under your own control. The monasteries were most enjoyable in the hour before closing as the majority of crowds were gone. The scenery was breathtaking and well worth the trip. So glad we included this in our itinerary!

Speechless - nature and mankind greatness
a real wonder!!!
after visiting 2 monasteries you can skip the others... more of the same
but the greatness of the nature... you can seat for hours and watch the views and never say enough .

This is one of the most unique and breathtaking places I have ever visited. The geology is fascinating and visiting the monasteries was a privilege. It is a very special place.

There are now 5 functioning monasteries perched on the beautiful rock formations of Meteora. Ladies will need a long skirt (mid calf) but if you don't want to pack one they have them to lend at each monastery for no charge. Definitely do not miss the spectacle of views and structures. If you want a commentary, take your own guide! You can also do hiking and rock climbing but check with your hotel where it is permissible to do these activities because some parts are restricted.

We had a full day and a morning to visit all the Monasteries which we just managed to do. At least one site is closed each day and they all open at 9.0 AM. Found 8 Coaches at the 1st site but being in a car we just moved around to avoid the crush. Some long walks but some are close to the road and have Wheel chair access
