“Perfect view, but no way 5 star hotel!!!!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 2, 2010

The view was perfect, the best you could take at Meteora, the rooms were cosy, the reception with the photos excellent, very spacious but the service or facilities were definetely not a 5 star hotel, maybe 3 star ok. Breakfast was very good, staff was not experienced, the staff was like 3-4 people all together. There was one person very nice trying to do all the work, we really appreciate his help. You could ask for a coffee now and have it in 1 hour. The pool was good but there was nobody at the pool to ask for a drink. Restaurant was not open during the day time where you would like to rest and you had to the village to find something to eat. Restaurant open only when there was a group around like 6-7 pm, however we should admit food was very good. We had to complaint many times and then have the service they should provide. It is ok to go there but wait facilities and service of 3 star hotel.

if you get there with your own car, there is absolutely NO WAY to find it... Make sure to get proper directions. I must admit though that the view is fabulous. That's all!! 5-star amenities... forget it. Yes its a nice clean big hotel with high potential if they do something. Service? nowhere... Pool? not so clean... Outer windows for the sun not to wake you up in the morning? why to be there? there is no sun in this country... Any action for Mosquitos maybe in the province??? How many days do they expect to change our sheetsand towels??? probably only for the next guest... and since we live only in 2010 why to have Wi-Fi ? there is ONE laptop in the reception for everyone.. But Kalampake has 4 wifi spots!!!

OK, I admit it: I should have known better when all my e-mails to the hotel were not returned, and almost every time I called there wasn't anyone who spoke English. But we went anyway.
From the moment we entered the hotel, it was clear that it was just an upgraded guesthouse. The system is not computerized, and they tried to accommodate us in a different floor than our children. Finally we got rooms that were on the same floor, but not next to each other.
The rooms are very basic. They are clean, and that's the only good thing I can say. There isn't any kind of luxury you can expect from a 5-star hotel: no mini-bar, no bath robes, TV in the size of a very small computer screen, and so on.
The big advantage of the hotel is the view from your window. The rocks are spectacular.
Breakfast is also very nice, but the "restaurant" seems more like a high-school cafeteria than a restaurant in a luxury hotel.
So basically, we were very dissapointed and reccommend anyone who expects 5-star luxury to choose another hotel.

Somewhat sparce hotel in Kalambaka with mainly tour groups passing through but the owner bent over backwards to help us manage the unfortunate situation of having had a passport stolen on the Athens metro en route (careful there!). Fabulous views, good breakfast, comfortable beds & clean room.

First. There is great confusion here in TripAdvisor. There are two Hotel Meteora's in the area; one more upmarket, the other basic. One is in Kalambaka (which is the main city) and the other is in Kastriki (small and sleepy town). All of the reviews for both hotels so far in TripAdvisor have confused the issue as they are all located in the site for Hotel Meteora in Kalambaka, and hence it is difficult to figure out which one the review refers to. This review is the first for the new Meteora Hotel located in Kastraki.

Hotel: The hotel is located outside of Kastraki on a hill overlooking both the town and Meteora. The view is stunning, especially from the balcony. However, it is an isolated hotel, and you would need a car to get into town for dinner.

The hotel appears to be set up pretty much for tours, which seem to roll in and roll out. The owners seemed to be overwhelmed with it all, and on our arrival there was no one at the front desk. When we finally got our room, it smelled of mildew (see previous review. appears to be a signficant problem). Rather than move us, they said they would just pour bleach down the drain (!). My wife insisted, and we got a better room. Besides the mildew, the rooms were comfortable but minimalist. The star attraction is the view from the balcony.

The lobby was huge, and the simple bar area quite nice to sit and take int the view of Meteora.

Breakfast is ok. As solo travellers we got there after the tour group pretty much went through the buffet. However, the server ensured fresh items were delivered. Dinner option is limited (you can eat a buffet with the tour groups).

Service was questionable; our room was not made up for the next night.

The owners are both very nice and friendly. However, they are not geared up for solo travellers. There was no information available on Meteora, and they were not able to provide any guidance (except a sheet of the openning times).

The hotel has great potential, but the management appears to be overwhelmed.
