Cano Negro is off the beaten track and in the early stages of developing tourism. As such it's a wonderful and very special place to visit. There are great opportunities for birding (yes I saw my first Trogan there), fishing (yes, my husband fought an over 100 lb tarpon on a fly rod for 2 hours), and meeting wonderful, friendly people like Rosie. Although not an official park ranger she is the best one to answer any of your questions about the area. Rosie and her husband Joe run the tour company on the square in the tiny village, near the dock. You will not have a problem if you don't speak Spanish and the prices are very affordable. If you go to Costa Rica and don't get out to see nature with them you'll miss a lot!
