“Parelli Trek March 2012”
Reviewed May 16, 2012

This was a great trip, and a very wonderful week with my daughter. All of the people at Barking Horse Farm, and the farms along the trek, are warm and gracious and generous. This is not a trip for those who demand 4-star accommodations, but it is one that allows you the opportunity to meet a few incredible people that make Costa Rica home, and enjoy the sights and sounds of this beautiful country. I would suggest you be very honest with yourself and your abilities with horses. The Costa Rican / Criollo horses are smaller, athletic horses that are built to go hours up and down mountain trails. This hardiness demands a certain amount of spirit and a rider that appreciates this quality and can match it. Liz Hawkins is the remarkable leader & planner of these treks, and a wonderful hostess.

“January CR trek”
Reviewed May 14, 2012

I thoroughly enjoyed my trek with you all. The horses have great work ethics! The food was very good, considering reliance on others to prepare it. My only wish was that the whole group be on the same level of horsemanship. Granted, you have to rely on the riders to be truthful when making their plans. If we'd had the freedom to move at a faster pace it would have been more fun. I would say that, under our unique circumstances, we did the best we could with our limitations. The staff was courteous and professional. The country was breathtaking. The zip line was exhilarating.

“Parelli 6 day horse trek”
Reviewed March 5, 2012

Liz and Brenda of Barking Horse Farm have connected with several Parelli Natural Horsemanship professionals. As I have a horse and am student of Parelli, I was drawn to this trek, being familiar with Parelli 4* instructor Nita Jo Rush. Liz and Brenda have great compassion for their horses and work very hard to make sure riders will be ready for the mental and physical stamina it takes to make a horse trek through some rather rugged country. At 71 years of age this was a dream trip for me. Liz, Brenda and Nita Jo made it all possible. You do take care of your own horse, you overnight with local families, you share cold showers and toilets, it can get hot and dusty, BUT, if you enjoy adventure and experiences outside your comfort zone, love horses and don't expect to find all the amenities of a 3* hotel I would say "go for it!" I can't think of one thing I disliked about the trip. Liz and Brenda are two amazing women, along with their families.

“Go where no tourists go on horseback, an unique adventure with amazing people.”
Reviewed March 1, 2012

Liz Hawkins delivers a unique, up close and personal trek through Costa Rica experienced on solid, well cared for trail horses. Nice long days in the saddle take you to remote areas of Costa Rica where you are introduced to, and immersed in, the local culture. Riding takes you through mountains, rainforests, towns, farms, all the way to the beach. It is a rugged excursion, not for the faint of heart, but for those with riding skills and a sense of adventure it is the trip of a lifetime. You are not just viewing Coasta Rican scenery from a distance, you are in the scenery. Liz provides quality accomadations along the trek, added attractions, and the food is fantastic! Liz and company's kind and genuine nature puts anyone at ease and their sincerity in sharing this experience with others is the real deal.
