After nearly a week at this fantastic hotel, I only find a word to describe and embrace all the things that we lived there, and the word is “WONDERFUL”, the staff, all the time with a smile in their faces and a very familiar and professional treatment, the location, you couldn´t ask for more, at the Picos de Europa, at the feet of hundreds of routes to lose yourself in the National Park, and last but not less important, the Restaurant, a true symbol of the cantabrian gastronomy.

Which could be a better review for a hotel that say that we´ll come back next year to enjoy the after lunch “Rock Tea” at the terrace, the refreshing baths at the swimming pool to end them gazing at the Picos . Come back to great again to the professional’s family that work together to make it an unforgettable experience.

Wonderful hotel with the loveliest of staff without exception. Great dining room and excellent food well served. Good value menu of the day recomended. Good wine list. Stunningly lavish breakfast buffet. Friendly St Bernard dogs; big but chilly outdoor pool, good tennis court and other facilities. The best place to stay for Fuente De. Can't wait to go back in the future

Room Tip: best overlooking pool on second floor

Spent a fantastic shortweek in this hotel. Everything to it is as good as other contributors have described before. The restaurant serves impeccable local dishes at good prices. The setting is gorgeous with the dramatic Picos surrounding the hotel. Plenty of hiking tracks in the area, some leaving at the hotel. Service is utmost friendly. The swimming pool is surprisingly large. A great experience at a fair price.

Had a wonderful week's holiday at the Hotel Del Oso; great location, very friendly & helpful staff and exxcellent facilities.

We asked for (and got) 2 adjacent twin rooms overlooking the pool at the back of the hotel with a backdrop of the Picos. Room immaculate and tea/coffee facilities a bonus.

Pool and grounds wonderful!

Food was excellent, especially the buffet breakfast. Felt however that the set menu dinner was slightly overpriced (€21 + tax) (compared to other establishments locally) and for this reason we ate out on several evenings.

If you feel like doing similar, I'd recommend giving the Hotel Cosgaya a miss (food OK; miserable staff and soulless restaurant) and wander down the road to La Casona de Cosgaya, who do a 3 course 'Picos' menu for €14.

Also, if visiting Potes, I'd recommend La Serna (pizzas) opposite the main car park & Bar Centre adjacent to the river in the middle of town (€11 for 3 courses incl. wine/bread)

Trips out? Cable car @ Fuente De is a must: nearby village of Espinama has a useful Spa for room essentials (wine etc!) and also mountain villages of Pembes & Mogrovejo (both left off Potes Road) are worth a stroll round.

We will return!

Room Tip: ask for a room overlooking the pool; balconies on top floor.

This was an absolutely lovel hotel - great friendly service from the staff, nicely decorated throughour, marble bathrooms, wooden balcony overlooking swimming pool/tennis courts and absolutely stunning views of the Picos mountain range (a bit like a mini version of the alps). Although the room was a little on the small side, this did not matter. Restaurant in the hotel had reasonable food (this was a little on the stodgy side but that was fairly normal cuisine for this part of spain)
Overall - I would thoroughly recommend this as a place to visit - we loved it and were glad that we had extended our stay from 1 to 2 nights. A real gem.

Room Tip: ask for a room with a balcony and a view of the mountains.

After all the amazing reviews, I was looking forward to staying at this hotel and had very high expectations. In most ways it did not disappoint, but in a couple it did. Would I stay anywhere else if I ever found myself in the area again? No: so overall, it was great.
The service makes the place unbeatable - from the front desk to the breakfast staff everyone is helpful, patient and seems to be hired only if they are truly interested in the guests. The garden and the outside are lovely - you would never know you are by a highway (of sorts). The location is quite good as well, between fuente de and what we very surprisingly found to be an over-touristy Potes. And the breakfast sets you up beautifully for the day - the spread is on par with luxury international hotels, it's actually an amazing deal. Don't miss the croissants.
A few things would make the place even better. The first would be heating the pool just a little - it was very cold while we there and so the pool was freezing. People sat by the pool wrapped in jackets and towels, it was not really possible to get into the pool, which would have been nice at the end of a day of hiking. This was July though, so not sure the pool heats up that much more later on.
And the rooms are really on the small side - we had an extra bed in ours as well for a child and there was almost no space left over. I don't know if slightly bigger rooms are available for those with three beds. Its decoration was lovely and the bathroom was also quite nice, with thick towels. Everything absolutely spotless.
The clientele is international, with many Germans, Dutch and English, as well as Spanish families on weekend breaks and it's definitely a worthwhile experience that we enjoyed overall.
