Nice-looking at first sight,however... :
- room is very old-looking, poorly equiped (an old TV hardly working, that's all)
- door of the room look like toilets-door, hard to open and close it.
- bad smell in the bathroom
- door of the shower dirty and not closing properly
- but nice sea-view :-)
- 100 kuna oncost for airconditioning
- bed sheets are too small, they don't fit !!!

Common areas of the hotel are clean but old. The swimming pool looks nice, however...:
- it's dirty inside (green Moss on the sides, for sure not cleaned for ages)
- Lots of wasps around
- only 8 sunbaths for the whole hotel, 5 of them being broken !

And there's nothing to do in Lumbarda town... Stay in Hvar instead, far better !

We stayed at Hotel Borik for 9 nights in June 2012. We paid extra for a room with a sea view and would definitely recommend paying the extra money to guarantee a great view. The majority of rooms in the annex face inland, whereas we had a fantastic view of the harbour, the sea and mountains. Its not for the faint hearted though, we were on the top floor of the annex which meant 10 flights of stairs - there is no lift!! The air conditioning was included in the price, however it wasn't working when we arrived at the hotel. The staff were extremely helpful, tried to fix it and when it couldn't be fixed offered us another room along the hallway (with a complimentary meal at the a la carte restaurant thrown in as an apology!).

We were not half-board, but the standard of the food when we had the complimentary meal was very good. There was lots of choice at breakfast - meats, cheeses, hot options, cereal, fruit, yogurts, pastries etc. After reading the other comments about the flies, I was concerned, but the staff do try and keep the food covered and you have to appreciate you are in a hot country.

The pool area was fantastic. An infinity pool, which we had to ourselves most of the time. Yes, the rooms are basic, but very clean and well maintained. The maid came in everyday to tidy and clean the room. I would have to disagree with the comment below about the chairs on the balcony. I think the chairs provided were definitely more comfortable than the usual balcony furniture!

The area around the hotel has a few restaurants, particulary fish restaurants, and a handful of bars. It is very quiet and very relaxing. A taxi ride to Korcula Town will cost about 100kuna from the front of the hotel. We went into Korcula Town a few times for our evening meal and there are plenty of places to eat and some really nice bars too. It is a beautiful island - the beach in Lumbarda is a 10 minute walk from the hotel, but lovely and quiet.

The majority of tourists are from Germany and Italy, which means some of the Croatian people do not speak good English., however people were still very friendly.

If you are looking for a relaxing holiday, in a beautiful location, with lovely food and welcoming people, then look no further than Hotel Borik.

Room Tip: Pay extra for a sea-view room.

We stayed in hotel Borik 7 nights in August 2011 in the old building (where the reception is located).

We didn't have much of a view and the room was decidedly unimpressive--basic furniture and bathroom (although obviously recently done and very clean). Aircon was working fine. The staff is very helpful and the food (we had half-board) is pretty good--breakfast buffet was good and always incorporated seasonal fruits and hot options; dinners (convenient with small children) were reasonable quality too. But the best thing is the location and the grounds, with expansive stone terraces where you can sit with a coffee/drink and enjoy the view of the town below. There is an attractive-looking outdoor swimming pool (which we admittedly never got around to use as beaches are minutes away). For families with children, be aware that there is no elevator--we generally parked our buggy downstairs by the kitchen area during the day to avoid having to carry it up and down. Also, many of the terraces aren't fenced so you have to be mindful of your kids. On the plus side, there is a small supermarket two minutes away and a large one 5-10 mins, couple of really good bakeries, and very child-friendly beaches within a short walk.

All in al hotel Borik a very good value for money and a good family holiday place (and if you rent a boat or car, even better!)

I and my husband have just returned from Korcula inland. We stayed in Hotel Borik 3 nights in room 011. The hotel has excellent location with see view. In general the hotel is located in Lombarda which is only 6 km away from Korcula city, and I am always looking to take a hotel in main city but this time my choice was the real bingo since Korcula city does not have a beaches at all, yes it has but not real one with sand, and I prefer sand beaches. If you want to have very peaceful holiday, to enjoy in nature in wine and Dalmatian music, Korcula, Lumbarda is the best. If we are talking about hotel, ok it is not a 4stars hotel, but if you see what you get as a return really worth it. The hotel has its old and new part. It was renovated 2-3 years ago. And you can really see that management works on it every year to be better and better. Last year they built the pool. As I’ve already mentioned we stayed in room number 011, on the first floor, old part of hotel, see view. When I say old part of hotel that means it looks like old town buildings (very romantic). We did not need at all air conditioning system so I did not notice did we have it at all. The walls are made of old big rock and the temperature in the room was quit ok. Food standard mediterian breakfast (worm and cold dishes), common people you will not stay hungry this is important, isn’t it? Dinner -Dalmatian specials. Now, the most important part, the management of hotel was very helpful to us, and organize us visiting the Korcula Inland, Korcula city, they’ve showed us beautiful hidden beaches and vast wine yards in the hinterland with many agrotourisms where local wines and specialities can be tasted. What we get from management from this hotel we never get such hospitality and dedication nowhere. So my recommendation is to ask for Mrs. Leli and I am sure she will make her best to have unforgettable holiday. She will recommend you where to buy best wine, best virgin oil, … My soul and mind are completely renewed thanks to hotel Borik and their management. I love you…

Room Tip: First floor in old part of hotel, see view, 011

the area was lovely, quiet and not very touristy, breakfast was impressive, the view was awful and the room got very hot at night. overall it was a pleasant experience but its worth spending more for air con and a good sea view.
Croats don't seem to like to help tourists in general i found from visiting beautiful croatia!!

For backpackers only!!!No frigobar! No arconditioning. Very old towels. Very old linens. Some rooms at the 4th floor without elevator, and the guest "climb" all the stairs alone. The half board is ridiculous. Very very simple! But expensive!!! Noisy!!! Some places with live music around. I give up as soon as I arrived with my wife!!! I look for another hotel in downtown. Because Lumbarda is 5 miles from all the atractions and from the old town! So..I'm sorry, but Borik it's the only disapointed think in Croatia.

Dear guest,

after reading your review, please let me respond to some of the comments.
Informations about facilities of hotel Borik are available on internet, hotels official web site and other on-line booking agencies. It is not published anywhere that our rooms have mini-bar, nor that hotel has elevator. Furthermore, it is not true that hotel rooms do not have air-condition. There are both: rooms with air-condition and rooms without it. Those without it are cheaper, and you probbably booked such room. This year we increased the number of air-conditioned rooms and from the next season all the rooms will be air-conditioned.
We have standard halfboard: buffet breakfast with cold and warm dishes and three-choice-menu dinner (appetizer, main dishes and desert). Although, I can't see how did you get an impression of "ridiculous halfboard" since, as you wrote, you left to another hotel as soon as you arrived.
I'm sorry that you did not find Lumbarda interesting, since it is quite a picturesque village with beautiful beaches and vast wineyards in the hinterland with many agrotourisms where local wines and specialities can be tasted. It also has an interesting and long history (dating back to the age of ancient Greeks) whose wintesses are many remains of historic buildings, renaissance villas and churches. It is generally a quiet place and the live music you heard was coming from the bar in the center, but it is an entertainment for the tourisits organized by Lumbarda village and the music ends at 11:00 PM. Old town of Korcula is only 6 km away and there is a bus station in front of the hotel.
We constantly work on improving hotel's services and facilites. If you come to Korcula again, I hope you will be convinced into it.
Best regards,
Margareta Karadza

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Hotel Borik is located in the heart of the little village of Lumbarda, only a few steps from the main street and with a view on the marina Lumbarda and the Peljesac peninsula. The hotel’s beautiful building is the former stone summer palace of the Mirosevic family, today with about twenty renovated rooms with air conditioning. The annexe Borik is located behind the hotel and has further 60 renovated rooms with a balcony. If you wish to savour top culinary specialties, you only have to come down towards the pleasant shade of the a la carte restaurant or pizzeria, and in those rare moments of rain you can enjoy your meal in the roofed part of the restaurant. We are particularly proud of our vast lounge bar, where you may freshen yourself with cold drinks sitting on comfortable reed armchairs. Hotel Borik has made available to its guests direct phone lines, SAT TV, wifi in common areas, internet café, exchange bureau and bicycle rent service. You can reach the beautiful beaches by foot. The pebbly beach Tatinje is only 200 m away from the hotel, but if you prefer rocky beaches, we recommend you Bilin zal. The path to the sandy beach Przine will lead you through vineyards and olive groves and you will find the sea in that cove warmer than around the rest of the island. It would be a pity not to visit some of the fabulous sites near Lumbarda, which is the reason why the hotel offers excursions around Korcula, to Mljet, the most densely wooded island in Croatia and the worldwide famous pearl of the Croatian tourism, the town of Dubrovnik. ... more   less
