This b&b feels like a proper family hotel. First impressions are of the big terrace adorned with flowers, the host - fluent in German but also OK in English - gives you a friendly welcome, and the hotel is carpeted throughout, which makes for a very quiet ambience. We took a nice, spacious room with balcony and sea view, which is probably worth the extra in such a beautiful area. The breakfast, taken out on the terrace in good weather, was stunning in its presentation and range of choice, probably the best anywhere I've encountered. We enjoyed the quiet location, but only 4-5 minutes down steps to the beach and you're on the famous 7 mile Lungomare promenade, with restaurants for all budgets within easy walking distance. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Room with a sea view worth the extra.

I can only confirm that the structure is cosy. You must be careful when paying the bill, as the owners will charge you unexpected or unaccounted extras. Even I had booked thru an email after having viewed their web site, I have been charged extra 16 Euros for air conditioning whilst this is included in their prices on their web site. Also this B&B is NOT in OPATJIA as indicated in their web site but in the next town.
I will never visit this structure again as I believe that one must be first of all HONEST.
Regards
Robert Bloch

Villa Klara is an inexpensive gem. It is a homey, country style family-run guesthouse located 150 meters up the hill from the beach of Icici, 2km west of Opatija (aka the Croatian Riviera) going toward Lovran. The hotel has some stairs from the street up to the reception and has no lift for its 3 floors. The double bed rooms are adequate size. The singles are quite small. My room was spotlessly clean and comfortable. The bed was comfy and the small private bathroom had a good shower. The front rooms have a bit of a seaview through the trees and get the morning light. The back rooms have a mountain view and afternoon sun. Many of the rooms have small balconies. The breakfast buffet was as nice as I've found in many larger hotels. They serve dinner 3 nights a week at the time I am writing this. There is a very nice big terrace at the front of the hotel. Being up the hill, it gets little noise from the main beach road, but you can hear birds all day long. The owners are friendly and really nice. Their main languages are Croatian, German, and some Italian. English is very basic. The guesthouse has a small fitness room. It also has parking. This guesthouse does not have internet available for guests. Other than that, I found it quite a tranquil place to stay. Be prepared for a bit of a climb when you walk down to beach road and back. At the bottom of the hill, you will find a bus stop, a nice pebble beach (nicest in the area) with cafes, an excellent marina, a small food market, a kiosk, and a couple of tourist info places, and a hair salon. There are a few bistros and restaurants within 500 meters in either direction. I was directed to Villa Klara by a local tourist information service, but it is hard to find on an internet search.
