just came back from a meal for two with my wife. We got off the commuter train and drove straight there. We tried the meze for 2 at £20 per head. This consisted of four course, the first course largely of typical Cypriot fare, humous, taramosalata, tsasiki, potato salad olives and pitta bread. Hmm well I wouldn't say it was better than shop bought quality. Next course was excellent consisting of deep fried white bait and calamari, the latter being amongst the best I've had. This certainly had my taste buds buzzing. The third course was a mixture of kofte, a sort of spinach and ricotta somoza, dolmades and grilled haloumi. This course was also very tasty, the haloumi was superb, and dolmaded, which can be bland were flavoursome. The main course was a mixed souvlaki plate consisting of a skewer of chicken, lamb and pork souvlaki cooked on charcoal. The mean was very tender but was let down by a lack of flavour, It idid not have that barbeque flavour to the extent we queried whether it had just been grilled., The waiter showed us the charcaols burning in the kitchen but we couldnt see the clouds of smoke that would have given the meat the distinctive flavour. It was a pity because it let the meal down - but for this I would have given it a 4 out of 5 rating.
Service was efficient, polite and friendly and the owner came to greet us and gave us free cypriot coffee.
Ambience is easy on the eye and the background music is muted and designed to be restful, to let you talk to your fellow diners.
Price was reasonable, although I didn't like the discretionary 12.5% service charge automatically added so you would need to be brazen or assertive to get it shifted - I wasn't and paid up. I might have given the same level of tip but I don't like being dictated to how much I tip.

Would i go back again - yes I would as the menu has some other interesting items that I would like to try, like beef stifado, but not the meze which was just not good enough.

Work colleagues had recommended Galu and we went there on Sunday. The food was good and the waiting staff very pleasant but the acoustics in the room meant that we found it difficult to have a conversation. It might have been because the other diners were extra noisy and we enjoyed it enough to give it another go.

Our first visit, but not for the others in our party who have been several times before and really like it. The waiters were very welcoming, friendly and attentive which is what you should get, but nevertheless they were very pleasant all evening. The food however was for me at best average. Fishcakes for starter were ok, but nothing to get excited about, and my main, swordfish, was cooked too long on the chargrill, so dried out. My wife had the Kleftiko but I agree with a previous writer that it was just like Lamb shank with piped mash, no imagination really. Lastly I dont like the service charge being added to the bill, after all that is what they do isn't it? Not for me I am afraid. We went home and watched "professional master chef", now that was good!
