Upon arrival at Woolpack very busy Thursday 3 October as quiz night, We ordered the over priced standard out of catering wholesale products, expecting at least for them to be cooked well.
This was not the case the deep fried Brie in breadcrumbs hadn't reached correct temperature in centre was solid , cold and bland. The chutney accompaniment bitter.
The attempt at pate was at best supermarket with yet more of the incipient chutney, described as different however looked tasted same as the Brie chutney.
The whitebait was ok but again bland.
The Manger cleared our less than eaten starters without asking how it was. Quick group decision was not to complain at this point as we were all very hungry and having read - hand made, home made, fresh ingredients , chefs recipe HOPED the chef may deliver with mains.
2 hotspots ordered, without basic seasoning or taste, one sent back
Next send back the salmon that was so over cooked and dry a steak knife could have been used, with spilt hollandaise sauce and asparagus that was so old it was limp and black inside when cut open making it very bitter.
The final dish sent back was apparently Sea Bass on the crushed potato, as it didn't taste of that, it was lucky we had a menu to identify the fish.
We asked to speak to the so called manager.
He told us as the plates from starters looked like they had been finished they must have been ok ( I explained you ask your customer, and we covered the disgusting sloop with our napkins )
When we complained about the mains I enquired have you and chef tried it " yes it's fine nothing wrong with it" please see picture which clearly shows a split sauce, cold hard over cooked salmon, demonstrated by colour and oil Etc
When the other people on the table complained the manger was quick to tell them their wrong, food fine.
Please don't waste your money there, it's not good food, the manager adds insult to the customer with his lack of customer service, and cowardly let his staff refund us without offering an apology.
As decent folk we paid for our wine and beer, 1 eaten Hotpot, any DECENT MAN and MANGER would have given the drinks complimentary.
Our group was made up of Four adults eating
one of which has extensive food, Resturant catering , pub management knowledge ( she ran and built up one of the most established and popular local wine bars with over 36 years in the industry)

A pub and Resturant reviewer
and the final person that was so embarrassed and hungry that did muster through the dish described as hotpot.
Very expensive for inadequate food and appalling manger left us hungry with bitter taste.
