“Fantastic anniversary/birthday night away”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2012 via mobile

We loved the hotel and were very pleased to be upgraded to a cottage to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. We had a fabulous meal in the restaurant and gorgeous breakfast. Our only criticisms would relate to the bathroom decor which was in need of a revamp due to peeling paint, dusty bedside tables and a tatty velux window blind in the bedroom. These things didn't spoil our time at the hotel but they did take away the feeling of a bit of luxury. We have however recommended the hotel and would love to return next time we have the chance.

We have only been to the Slaughter Inn for lunch as we live locally. We had high expectations that the new branding of this pleasant building and excellent location would result in a great place to eat. Unfortunately our visit was a distinct disappointment. Prices are at the top end of the gastropub range but the value is hard to find in the limited menu. In particular the service has a long way to go: placing an order and getting a bill were both unreasonably difficult because it seemed that only one person was authorised to do such jobs.

We live in hope that Brownsword will get their act together and deliver an experience that is worth the prices they are charging. Otherwise this is going to be strictly a venue for the tourist trade only and not for discerning locals.

Dear rtdgom, thank you for your review, I am sorry that your visit to us was not all that it should have been, but as I am sure it was explained to you, it is not good practice to let any staff member take food orders or present bills.

We are always reviewing our menu content and pricing, and will take your comments on board

I would be happy to talk through any of your points raised in person, or over the phone if you would kindly contact me

Best Regards
Stuart

Stayed with our party of family and friends, 8 in total, and of various ages and everyone enjoyed themselves. Those who were allocated a cottage were delighted, and the rooms very comfortable, clean and well furnished. The restaurant staff were exceptional and went out of their way to ensure we had a good time. Bar areas had lovely log fires and all the staff were only too happy to help. Thank you all for a lovely time.

Room Tip: Cottages are excellent ..... home from home.

Just returned from a weekend break to celebrate a family 60th. Birthday. There were fourteen of us including two children and the Hotel gave us a private dining room for the stay, this proved to be just ideal. All the rooms we saw were different in size and style and of a good standard. However there was no docking station in our room and despite several reminders one was never located,or indeed any apology made.
The staff were friendly and the waiter who looked after us did his very best to accomodate us. One of the girls made a really super Birthday cake. However the food was somewhat slow in appearing at times and maybe a few more kitchen staff would be an idea. It is after all a very busy tourist destination. We did have three dogs in the party and this was also not a problem.

Room Tip: Our room Durnford had a sofa and a large bathroom with bath and seperate shower. It was on the ground...

We live locally and went for dinner. It's a beautiful place, outside and in, and that's matched by the awareness and friendliness of the staff. The cooking too is delightful - a short menu all fresh, creative, tasty, and well presented - exactly what you'd expect from a place owned by Brownsword and influenced by Michael Caines. Somehow though the package didn't quite work overall which can then only be the environment. The bar itself isn't that of an Inn - can't see yourself just popping over to the bar for a drink for example. The interior is smart restaurant (mirror walls on all sides in the restaurant and the inevitable mushroom coloured walls) and it's really a small chic hotel/restaurant rather than a country inn.

I booked this as last minute thing for a night away in the countryside. It was a great find as the hotel was perfect. Wew were met by friendly staff who took our bags and showed us to our room.. The room was lovely and food was excellent. We had room service which was a Classic aftternoon tea of sandwiches and cakes then had an evening meal. Afternoon tea was gorgeous and a lot for one person which no one could complain about.
The evening meal of roast pork although was really nice was more about last years style of fancy presentation than content which together with the price of the meal was a bit of a downer on a really pleasant stay. Breakfast was what you would expect of a high quality establisment.
I will definately be visiting this hotel again as its located in a beautiful area with lovely walks and villages nearby.
Maybe try something different on the menu next time or dine elsewhere as the meals we ordered were really not for us

Recommended by a friend - it was quality in the Cotswold countryside.
When we arrived we knew we would enjoy our stay as we recognised Stuart, the General Manager as we had stayed at a hotel he had previously managed and he always went that extra mile to ensure his guests were happy and an enjoyable stay.
A quiet stress free establishment, a comfortable bed in a lovely room, delicious food, relaxing atmosphere. One major fault was that we had to go home and leave it behind for others to enjoy!
